CT installs “Basketball Capital of the World” sign at Mass. border

ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – You may have noticed a new highway sign when you’re driving down I-91 south into Enfield.

The state of Connecticut put up these new signs earlier this week declaring that the state is the “Basketball Capital of the World”, the “Pizza Capital of the United States,” the “Submarine Capital of the World” and the “Foodie Capital of New England.”

Lawmakers are taking issue with the signs especially the basketball one on I-91. Governor Maura Healey posted on social media saying she fixed the sign. Basketball of course was invented in Springfield and the city is home to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The pizza signs are located on I-95 and I-84, greeting drivers entering Connecticut from New York.  New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy took issue with these pizza signs writing on social media “You’re not even the pizza capital of the tri-state area.”

The submarine sign is located on the Rhode Island state line.
