CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – September is known to be the peak of hurricane season and so far it has been very quiet across the Atlantic with only a handful of storms developing over the past few months.

When does hurricane season reach its peak?

There is some activity worth watching now as it gets close to the peak of hurricane season. The National Hurricane Center has an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico labeled as “Potential Tropical Cyclone Six” which will likely become Tropical Storm Francine by Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

This is forecasted to impact Louisiana on Wednesday as a Category 1 hurricane.

As for other areas to watch, there are two in the central Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center gives each of these areas of interest a 60 percent chance of tropical development over the next seven days.
