WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Big E opens its gates in 2 days and they’re bringing some new flavors to this year’s fair.

The Big E comes back to town this Friday with a slew of new rides, food, and entertainment. The classic fan favorites like cream puffs and corn dogs will make a return this year. President and CEO of the Eastern States Exposition, Gene Cassidy, told 22News why they’ve decided to add new attractions to the fair.

“Everything about the fair is tradition and we need to keep people interested. So we have to change the recipe,” said Cassidy.

One of those new experiences is this New Orleans-themed bar and grill. NOLA was started by Bill & Julia Collins, who run Center Square Grill in East Longmeadow. They’re bringing a raw bar with fresh seafood options, as well as Patriots football throughout the length of the fair. Chad Furnelli is one of NOLA’s partners. He talked about the new aspect they bring to the fair, other than their food.

“The big importance of having a female ran business is typically in this forefront you see all guys running this… One thing I love is having a female touch on things because it just adds that little bit of comfort little bit of softness to it that you always need that typically guys forget,” said Furnelli.

Along with new food options, new rides including the Himalaya and Venetian Swing will debut during this year’s festivities.
