PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are urging residents in the Springside Avenue area to lock their car doors after a series of car break-ins.

Officers responded to multiple calls on Wednesday morning about cars being entered during the night, with surveillance footage capturing the suspect, although the images and videos are of poor quality.

Authorities are advising the public to take simple precautions, noting that most car break-ins can be prevented by locking vehicle doors. While incidents of car windows being smashed are rare, they tend to involve valuable items such as laptops, jewelry, and purses left in plain sight. In most cases, thieves prefer not to break windows due to the noise it generates, which increases the risk of being caught.

“Remember to hit the lock button when you park your car,” the Pittsfield Police Department stated in a Facebook post. They emphasize that securing car doors can prevent 99.9% of motor vehicle break-ins.

Residents in the Springside Avenue area are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
