Springfield rape suspect arrested for alleged assault on State Street

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a sexual assault on State Street in Springfield.

According to the Springfield Police Department, detectives received information regarding an alleged assault on the 300 block of State Street on August 21st. The victim said that she was walking home in the late afternoon when she was approached by a man she did not know who allegedly forcefully grabbed her, threatened her, and sexually assaulted her. The suspect then robbed her before taking off.

The suspect was later identified as 43-year-old George Riveron of Springfield. On Tuesday at around 2:30 a.m. officers arrested Riveron at his home on Genesee Street. He is being charged with the following:

• Arrest Warrant
  – Aggravated Rape during the Commission of a Felony
• Rape – Subsequent Offense
• Indecent Assault & Battery on a Person 14 or over (Two Counts)
• Assault & Battery
• Threat to Commit a Crime
• Armed Robbery
• Larceny Under $1200 (Seven Counts)
• Intimidation of a Witness
