AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are investigating after a driver suffered minor injuries after striking a parked ambulance on River Road in Agawam.

The fire department says that this type of hazard is encountered by fire and EMS responders daily. This ambulance has only been in service for less than six months and will take months to repair or replace.

The police are investigating the cause of the crash. According to Massachusetts law, when an ambulance is responding to an emergency, drivers are required to pull over to the right side of the road and stop until the ambulance has passed. Drivers who intentionally obstruct or delay the passage of an emergency vehicle can face a fine.

I think the lights lights up well I think people need to pay attention to the roads and drive slow when emergency vehicles parked on road same as construction work being done too people should pay attention better

It’s good that you site the law about having to pull over but this particular ambulance was parked with nobody in it. Sometimes the flashing lights can be very distracting and make it difficult that see the surrounding area but this person appears to have been traveling at a higher rate of speed to do that kind of damage. You would think they would have slowed way down if the visibility from the flashing lights was bad.
