Multiple detained after threat at Pittsfield school

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – According to Pittsfield police, multiple people, including juveniles, have been detained following a threat at a Pittsfield public school.

Schools Superintendent Joseph Curtis said there was no evidence that a specific Pittsfield school was named. Parents received an email after the administration was made aware.

Pittsfield Police are asking parents to talk with their children about the serious consequences of online posts. Local behavior analysts are weighing in on how parents can do that.

“Letting kids know that they have a person they can talk to that will advocate for their emotional and physical safety,” says Matthew Matroni, a Behavior Analyst with Behavioral Health Network. “I think having that conversation as parent is something that you should practice. There are going to be some questions coming up that maybe you didn’t think of so practicing that is always best.”

Pittsfield police say that there are no active or credible threats. Curtis says additional information will be shared if there are further updates.
