    Which restaurants should you check out in western Massachusetts on National Cheeseburger Day?

    CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – September 18th is National Cheeseburger Day, which honors America’s favorite sandwich with a slice of cheese.

    According to the National Day Calendar , there are several theories as to when the cheeseburger was first created. One of the theories suggests that Lionel Sternberger invented the cheeseburger in 1926 while he worked at his father’s Pasadena, California sandwich shop called The Rite Spot. During one of his experiments, he dropped a slice of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger.

    Many others claim that they invented the cheeseburger, such as a restaurant in Los Angeles called O’Dell’s and how they placed the cheeseburger on their menu in 1928. It came smothered with chili, all for a quarter.

    To celebrate this food holiday, Yelp has put together a list of the top places to get a cheeseburger in western Massachusetts:
