PD: “Suspect was on a back porch shooting at people,” Springfield man arrested

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police arrested an armed shooting suspect after being called to a ShotSpotter Activation on Darwell Street.

According to the Springfield Police Department, at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers were called to the area of the 0-100 block of Darwell Street for a ShotSpotter Activation. Before arriving, officers were notified that the suspect was on a back porch shooting at people.

Upon arrival, officers received information that the suspect was on a third-floor stairway in a building and heard three additional gunshots. When officers gained access to the building, they located the suspect allegedly armed with a gun.

The suspect identified as 31-year-old Tyler Harris of Springfield was arrested and charged with the following:

• Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building (Four Counts)
• Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Three Counts)
• Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
• Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm

The firearm was seized and detectives located shell casings and projectiles inside the building.
