BOSTON (WWLP) – After a signing ceremony for a bill that helps Massachusetts compete for federal funding, Governor Healey addressed how her close ties to the Biden-Harris administration have impacted Massachusetts’ ability to get money.

This bill, which sets aside interest from the state’s stability fund to go towards fighting for federal funding, has raised questions about the state’s ability to secure funding under a potential second Trump administration considering Healey’s close relationship with the current White House.

The governor says all the credit for securing federal funding goes to her team. “Unless you submit applications that meet the moment, that show them to be not just qualified applications but really well done applications then you’re not going to get those federal dollars,” Healey said yesterday.

Still, Governor Healey says she advocates for Massachusetts whenever she speaks to the president, vice president, or members of congress. “Certainly as governor, I’ll be the first to brag on the state, I’ll be the first to go to D.C., I’ll be the first to pick up the phone and ask for money,” said Healey. “Certainly I’ll never pass up an opportunity to plug Massachusetts.”

The governor is an outspoken advocate for Kamala Harris for President, although she says that is unrelated to Massachusetts’ ability to secure federal funding. Governor Healey says she will continue to fight for federal funding for Massachusetts regardless of who our next president is.
