National Pancake Day: Where to get the best flapjacks in western Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Thursday is National Pancake Day, a day to celebrate with a tall stack of syrupy goodness.

According to the National Day Calendar , pancakes are also known as Johnnycakes, griddle cakes, or hotcakes, and date back over 30,000 years. Pancakes became a traditional part of Fat Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) celebrations when revelers would feast before they fasted.

They can be rolled and filled with fruit and other fillings, however they are typically stacked and drizzled with flavored syrup. Some also like to add fruit, nuts, chocolate, or whipped topping to them.
