SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Eversource is making sure one of the most valuable natural resources in western Massachusetts stays clean.

Eversource employees across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire worked along the Connecticut River Friday with thousands of community members for the Connecticut River Conservancy’s 28th annual Source to Sea Cleanup . This effort is part of their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

22News spoke with Amanda Heinsen, the event’s program manager at Eversource, about why they work to clean debris along the river every year.

“It’s so great to have committee members see us in action not just keeping their power on, but also giving back sustainability and clean energy or some more top priorities that ever so so the opportunity to come out and have our volunteer pulled trash from the river really protects our wonderful natural resource in our community,” said Heinsen.

For the past eight years, Eversource has partnered with the Connecticut River Conservancy to help ensure the ecological sustainability of the river. Employees have removed more than 500 bags of trash, picked up nearly 10,000 beverage containers, cleaning up more than 20 miles across three states since the partnership started.
