CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The first annual Angela Santiago Memorial Ride brought the community to the Moose Lodge in Chicopee to honor the legacy of one rider who passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2020.

“I would rather her be here, but we have to celebrate her life and honor her, and we are making it happen,” expressed Shavonne Santiago, Angel’s Sister.

According to the Angela Santiago Foundation, the event will honor the legacy of Angela to support the foundation established in her name. All proceeds will be donated in the form of scholarships to a total of two Chicopee High and two Chicopee Comp High School seniors.

Santiago says the event is all about keeping her memory alive, “My main mission for me is for people to continue to talk about her and that keeps her spirit here in presence. Outside of that, it’s to continue her mission to keep the community together, and to keep strengthening and empowering the youth. The big thing is to raise money to help the kiddos in our community.”

Sergeant Joseph Conroy with the Chicopee Police Department worked with Angela Santiago. He said she was all about helping out those in the community.

“Angela was an amazing girl. She did so much for the community,” expressed Conroy. “She was very active at the Boys & Girls Club and an event like this, just in her memory to remember her, to give back to the community in her name, just means the world.”

The event will feature a motorcycle memorial ride, followed by an after-party with live music by the band Unleashed, local vendors, and family-friendly activities. Registration ran from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. with the ride set for 11 a.m.

Angela Santiago, the 33-year-old Chicopee police officer, was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2020 on Interstate 91 in East Windsor, Connecticut. Angela was also a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Angela Santiago Foundation aims to continue its work by empowering and inspiring children through education, sports, fitness, and recreation.
