SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – As a number of states continue to clean up and recover from Hurricane Helene, Dakin Human Society is lending a helping hand here at home.

Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina was badly hit by Hurricane Helene.
To make room for others affected by the hurricane, they’re evacuating their shelter pets.
Dakin will receive a dozen dogs from the South Carolina shelter next week, but they’re also dealing with a high animal population right now. The shelter is reducing adoption fees by 50% starting Friday to encourage people to adopt.
