BOSTON (WWLP) – The Great Hall at the State House was packed to celebrate Korea Day on Friday, honoring the culture and contributions of the South Korean people to our state.

The celebration included performances, Korean food, calligraphy, origami, and tables to share resources and treats.

Former 22News State House Reporter Tiffany Chan attended Korea Day and spoke about how much representation has improved in just the eight years since she last worked in the building. “I remember when I was a state house reporter, gosh, it must’ve been eight years ago, I don’t even remember much Asian representation in the state house, let alone an event like this making such a big splash!” said Chan.

The lieutenant governor also spoke at the event, saying shared interests between Massachusetts and South Korea strengthen their political relationship. “We’ve got a shared passion for education, for science, innovation, arts, and culture. Our universities welcome students from Korea to study and earn degrees, and many students from Massachusetts frequently spend time in Korea as well,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll.

The lieutenant governor highlighted the 2 billion dollars in trade that happens between Massachusetts and South Korea each year.

The state leader said Korean and Korean American contributions make the Commonwealth stronger and are invaluable to the fabric of our communities.
