BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – Belchertown’s Board of Health is considering a generational ban on nicotine product sales.

The proposed ordinance would ban the sale of vape or tobacco products to anyone born on or after January 1st, 2004.

These bans, called “nicotine-free generation,” measures were made possible by a similar law passed in Brookline back in 2020. That was then upheld by the state supreme judicial court.

But local convenience store owners are pushing back, urging Belchertown to reconsider. They say the bans restrict freedoms and dont address the real issue of underage tobacco use.

The Belchertown Board of Health will meet on Wednesday night at 6:30.
