Florida flights impacted by Hurricane Milton at Bradley International Airport

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) – Air travel from Florida and all across the country is being impacted by Hurricane Milton as Florida airports remain closed until it is safe to reopen.

As a result, all flights to Tampa, Orlando, Vero Beach, Miami, and West Palm Beach on Thursday were canceled, leaving some travelers with disrupted vacations, and others without a way home. Airport lines were significantly shorter due to some canceled flights to and from Florida.

“There was less traffic this morning, maybe because of the other flights coming in or going out being delayed because of the weather,” said one traveler from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Airlines are urging anyone who has travel plans to Florida this week to check their flight status before they head to the airport. According to AAA Northeast, some airlines have been issuing waivers to allow travelers to change their tickets at no extra charge, even if they have basic economy fare. Check with your airlines to see if this may apply to you.

Meanwhile, Florida travelers are mentally preparing to return home. “You know, try not to be so focused on materialistic things, because it just shows that materials can just be gone in a moment,” said Micah White of St. Augustine. “Make sure you’re spending time with your family and friends. Those are the most important things.”

Those with relatives or friends affected are staying in communication and supporting as much as they can. “My cousin flew into Orlando yesterday actually to help get the family out and stuff,” said Kaila Jester from California. “But they’re okay now.”

“I’ve been up all night watching it because I have a child in Orlando,” added Susan of Ann Arbor. “Her and I have been communicating most of the night, making sure that she’s okay.”
