Amherst celebrates completion of new roundabout in town

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Amherst is celebrating the completion of a new roundabout in Pomeroy Village.

The state provided $1.5 million for construction in partnership with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Each year, Massachusetts awards one community with One Stop for Growth funding to support its housing and economic development goals.

“We do a very thorough review of all the different applications from across the state. We are very intentional about making sure the money goes to the places that need it the most and we’re going to have the biggest impact,” shared Yvonne Hao, Secretary of Economic Development, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Town of Amherst was awarded the funding in 2020 though the roundabout project has been in the works since 2003. State officials say western Massachusetts frequently submits applications to the One Stop for Growth and has future projects in the works.
