BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Mass General Brigham says they’ll be postponing some surgeries because of a nationwide IV fluid shortage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Damage left in Helene’s wake has disrupted the supply chain for critical medical supplies. One major manufacturing facility in western North Carolina is still recovering from flooding. Now, Massachusetts’s largest hospital and health care system will postpone certain non-emergent, elective procedures.

A spokesperson for the health system says the deferrals began this weekend, and will continue through at least Wednesday.
