SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Hurricane Helene and Milton made their way through Florida and The Carolinas, leaving behind some extensive damage.

Mild drought conditions declared in parts of Massachusetts

Hurricane Helene and Milton left millions of people without power, homes, and their loved ones and humanitarian organizations have been accepting donations to provide those who need help with essential resources.

Volunteers for the Massachusetts Red Cross have also been working to support hurricane survivors. Just last week, the Central-Western Massachusetts chapter sent out an emergency response vehicle from Springfield, carrying meals, water, and essential relief supplies.

While many people question what the government is doing to help, Congressman Richard Neal told 22News, “I think right now there is still about 10 billion dollars of FEMA funding that is available. But I also think that it is going to cost a heck of a lot more than that so it is just a question of getting that money out the door to the people who really need it and to reject the idea of misinformation that has flowed around the ability of FEMA.”

He told 22News that FEMA did a good job responding to the tornado here in the Pioneer Valley in 2011. He says that should be acknowledged.
