CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Chicopee Police Department is warning residents about an uptick of cars left unlocked that were broken into recently.

Police say that over the past two weeks, there have been a number of reported car break-ins and all of them were left unlocked. They say that suspects are walking through neighborhoods looking for vehicles that are unlocked.

The police shared a map of six pins identifying the following streets in the Chicopee Center area of reported incidents:

    • Henry Harris Street
    • Marion Street
    • Brooks Ave
    • Mellen Street
    • Davenport Street
    • Gilbert Ave

This serves as a reminder to lock your vehicles, even if they are in your driveway, and remove any valuables from your car. Mass.gov provides a list of tips to ensure your vehicle safety:

    • Park in well-lit areas
    • Close and lock all windows and doors when you park
    • Hide valuables out of sight, such as in the glove box or trunk
    • Do not leave your keys in your vehicle
    • Do not leave the area while your vehicle is running
    • Get a good car alarm
    • Add a car-theft tracking device

Police urged residents to call them if they see anything suspicious.
