    Northampton offering tax work-off program for seniors and veterans

    NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Eligible seniors and veterans who are property owners in Northampton can apply for the Senior and Veteran Tax Work-Off programs.

    The Senior program is open to persons age 60 and older, who own property in and pay real estate taxes to the City of Northampton. Participants must complete 133.33 hours of volunteer service to receive the full $2,000 tax credit.

    The Veteran Tax Work-Off Program is open to veterans, regardless of income limits, who own property and pay real estate taxes to the City of Northampton. This program offers a maximum of $1,500 in tax credit and requires 100 hours of volunteer service.

    The program is set to run from January 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025.

    Applications may be downloaded from the website or may be picked up in person at the Assessor’s Office, Senior Center, or Veterans Services Office. Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, November 15, 2024.

    Bullshit, seniors at work, their entire lives and veterans have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, why should they have to work it off?

    They should freeze property taxes on home owners when they turn 65.
