GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Greenfield Recreation Department is inviting the community to a family-friendly downtown Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 31.
The event, which runs from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., promises a night of fun activities for all ages, including a free movie screening, trick-or-treating, a parade, and a costume contest.
“We hope you will join us downtown for a fa-boo-lous night of family fun,” said Greenfield Recreation Director Christy Moore. “Every year, we love seeing the community’s creativity and festive spirit shine.”
The festivities kick off at 3:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Garden Cinema, which will offer a free showing of the Halloween classic It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown . The 25-minute film sets the stage for the evening’s events, followed by downtown trick-or-treating from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Participants can pick up a free trick-or-treat bag at the city common, and participating businesses will display pumpkin posters provided by the Greenfield Business Association to signify their involvement.
At 5:45 p.m., the annual Rag Shag Parade will take over the streets, led by the Greenfield High School Marching Band. Costumed children, adults, and even pets are welcome to join the parade, which begins at Mohawk Mall and ends at Energy Park for a community-wide costume contest.
The contest will award pizza to winners in various categories, including Best Homemade Costume, Funniest Costume, Best Cartoon Character Costume, Scariest Costume, Cutest Costume, Best Adult Costume, Best Group/Family Costume, and Best Howl-O-Ween Costume for pets.
In addition to the parade and costume contest, the Franklin County YMCA will host a spooktacular family fun night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at their facility. The YMCA’s activities include gym games, inflatable obstacle courses, and more trick-or-treating, all free and open to the public.
Greenfield’s Halloween celebration has become a beloved tradition, bringing together the community for a night of creativity, excitement, and spooky fun.
