CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A ceremony was held at Chicopee City Hall to honor those who assisted a local business that put on a back-to-school event.

The mayor and city leaders honored those who provided free haircuts and manicures at the back-to-school event at Rivers Park on August 25th. This initiative was led by Ricardo Diaz, owner of Faded Barber Lounge, and allowed the community to make sure Chicopee kids could start the school year feeling confident and cared for.

22News spoke to Diaz about what’s it like to see the city recognize both his and the community’s efforts. “It’s amazing, it’s a big honor to be part of this community here. And Chicopee is a very tight-knit community where everybody comes together. So I’m very proud to be able to do something for the city of Chicopee where we can come and provide resources and services for the children and for families,” said Diaz.

Diaz said he hopes this recognition inspires others to make an impact too.
