MILLERS FALLS, Mass. (WWLP) – Bridge Street in Millers Falls has reopened after crews were called to a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incident Monday morning.

Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Spokesperson Jake Wark told 22News that a hazmat team was requested to determine whether any substances from an incident at 16 Bridge Street posed a hazard to first responders or the public. It was determined that no hazards were detected, according to Wark.

The preliminary investigation by the State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office along with Turners Falls Fire Chief Brunelle states that it appears that a large amount of steam escaped from a brewing kettle. Wark said nothing exploded, and it is possible that a thermostat or similar appliance failed, allowing the kettle to boil and more steam was produced than expected.
