    Monson Superintendent Cheryl Clarke announces retirement

    MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Monson Superintendent Cheryl Clarke announced her retirement during the School Committee meeting last week.

    In the recorded meeting, Superintendent Clarke read a letter to the members of the School Committee notifying them of her decision to retire on June 30, 2025 .

    On Wednesday, October 23rd Clarke began her announcement at 00:09:40 by stating “It has been an honor to serve the students, staff, and families of the Monson Public Schools for 20 years. I am proud of the work we have accomplished during my 12 years of superintendence.”

    Clarke continues to say “I know that my intentions were always positive and true. I have made mistakes along the way and I have had to make some very difficult decisions at times. But throughout, the faces of each member of the MPS community were always in my mind.”

    She concludes with looking forward to spending more time with her family.

    Clark’s contract signed in April of 2022 was set to end on June 30, 2025.

    22News contacted members of the School Committee and the School Union for additional information and is waiting to hear back. A public meeting by a resident is being held with concerned parents on November 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the Parlor Car at Steaming Tender Restaurant in Palmer.

    Last year parents were concerned after the principal and the assistant principal of Monson High School abruptly resigned . The school is now led by Principal Christopher Fontaine.
