City extends search for new Holyoke police chief after one finalist withdrew

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – As a result of one of the finalists withdrawing for the new Holyoke police chief position, the application process has been extended for two weeks, according to Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia.

The former Holyoke Police Chief, David Pratt retired on July 31st after being appointed chief by former Mayor Alex Morse in July 2021 when Chief Manny Febo retired. Police Captain Isaias Cruz is serving as interim chief until a permanent chief is named.

A Search Committee was formed including city officials, community leaders, and law enforcement personnel who reviewed applications, conducted interviews, and assessed candidates. Over the course of several months, there have been public surveys, a public listening session, and candidates were assessed through simulation exercises.

Mayor Garcia was set to interview the two finalists on Wednesday however, due to the withdrawal of one of the candidates, the application process has reopened until November 11th. “I want to be certain that the best possible finalists are identified by the Search Committee before we take the final steps in the process,” Garcia said.
