BOSTON (WWLP) – A Brockton man was sentenced to prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy.

According to the Department of Justice, an investigation began in February 2020 of a drug trafficking organization run by Patrick Joseph of Stoughton. The drug trafficking conspiracy involved over 100 parcels containing kilograms of cocaine sent from Puerto Rico to various addresses throughout Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The investigation revealed that cocaine was hidden in two-kilogram quantities inside air fryers and cash boxes sent through the mail. A member of the drug trafficking operation, 40-year-old Robert Monteiro of Brockton, collected the packages containing kilograms of cocaine and redistributed.

In July 2021 , 11 individuals were indicted with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute cocaine and cocaine base.

Monteiro was convicted by a federal jury and sentenced to 69 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Joseph was sentenced to 138 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
