A popular health food sold in stores around the country has been recalled due to the potential risk of causing a "serious" infection.

Natural Sourcing International has issued a voluntary recall of its 32-oz. Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds "out of an abundance of caution" due to the possible presence of salmonella in some of the products, according to a recall notice posted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration .

The affected product included in the recall has a Lot Code of 24095 C018 , UPC of 078742300665 and expiration date of October 30, 2026 . The impacted products were distributed to Walmart retail locations nationwide .

Per the FDA website, salmonella could cause "serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems." Symptoms often include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, but more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections and endocarditis, could occur in rare circumstances.

The FDA urges anyone who has purchased the affected product to throw it out, while Natural Sourcing International will provide a replacement upon proof of purchase. For more information about a replacement, you can call NSI customer service at 1-818-405-9705 Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET or send an email to customerservice@organically-simple.com.

As of May 10, no illnesses have been reported as a result of the consuming the product. For more information about the recall, including product photos, visit fda.gov .

and look people eat this junk look so sick and your friends and family are not going too tell you that they do not want too hurt your feelings. but if you look at any so called healthy and or vegetarian look at the ingredients list. it is huge with chemicals. you look at a pork butt at your supermarket same place you shop. ingredient list says pork and water. hamburger says just beef 80/20 just a few examples. read the ingredients before you buy if you see a long list with name you can't even pronounce that's a red flag
