Trenton’s Jay Cormier signs with Toledo Cherokee
On July 19, one local ice hockey player signed a deal to continue his playing career as Jay Cormier inked a contract with the Toledo Cherokee. Cormier finished up his career at Trenton High School on a high note this past winter season, finishing with 11 goals — four of which came in the team’s playoff run to the state finals — and 22 points overall. One of six all-state honorees for Trenton this past year, the Brownstown native and recently-graduated captain finished his Trojan career with 45 points in 84 games played as a defenseman.

Motorcyclist sustains serious injuries in crash along LaPlaisance Road
LaSALLE TWP. — A Monroe man suffered serious injuries Saturday night when the motorcycle he was driving struck a guardrail and he was thrown onto an embankment. The crash in LaSalle Township was reported at 9:12 p.m. Saturday, July 20, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported in a news release. The preliminary investigation showed that James R. Miller, 51, of Monroe was driving a red 2008 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Laplaisance Road passing Lighthouse Road when, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle began to leave the roadway to the north and struck a guardrail causing Miller to be ejected from the motorcycle onto a nearby embankment.
