Barker and Nelson Earn WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Awards 5-1-24 [VIDEO]
For the first time this spring, we have a track sweep of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honor for May 1, 2024. The girls’ award went to Cody senior Ada Nelson. The boys’ honor went to Evanston senior Kai Barker. These two were selected for their effort in the week from April 22 through April 27, 2024.
Ben Spencer of Natrona Commits to Chadron State for Track & Field
Ben Spencer from Natrona has found a school to continue his track and field career and that's Chadron State College in Nebraska. At the recent Kelly Walsh Trojan Invitational, Spencer placed 1st in the shot-put at 50 feet 5 inches and took 2nd in the discus at 141 feet 8 inches. At the Wyoming Track Classic, He was 7th in the shot at 49.-9.75 and 8th in the discus at 136-8.

Natrona Wrestler Kaden Orr Signs with Minot State
Natrona's Kaden Orr has persevered through some adversity in his prep wrestling career but then again, he was a very successful competitor on the mat. His senior season was cut short after gall-bladder surgery so he missed the big Ron Thon Tournament and the State Tournament in Casper. That being said, Orr was still rewarded a scholarship to wrestle at Minot State in North Dakota.

The spring rodeo circuit continued over the weekend in Big Piney and the State Finals are right around the corner. Cowboys and cowgirls are piling up points in order to qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo which will be in Rock Springs later this summer. Big Changes at the Top of the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Rankings
A new No. 1 ranked team in each division of the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Poll was released on Wednesday. Even though there were changes at the top, no new teams entered the rankings. Lander and Jackson took the top spot in the girls’ polls, while Worland and Jackson moved to the top in the boys’ polls. There was one tie, and it was in 3A girls.
PhotoFest: Wright Track Meet
The Scott Hardy Memorial Track Meet was held in Wright this past week and this was another great chance to set a qualifying time or distance to get to the State Meet which will be later this month in Casper. It was a bit chilly but the state's prep athletes are hearty souls.
Wyoming High School Spring Golf Scoreboard: April 29 – May 4, 2024
It is Week 6 in the high school spring golf season in Wyoming. Six more events are on the calendar this week, which includes a few teams playing out of state in Nebraska in a boys’ only event. Action is spread throughout the week. Hulett hosted at Devils Tower. Green River, Cheyenne, Cody, Wright, and Lusk have other events in Wyoming. Not much time remains in the spring season.
Wyoming High School Boys Soccer Scoreboard: April 30 – May 4, 2024
Boys’ prep soccer teams in Wyoming are into Week 8 of the 2024 season. This is the final week of the regular season for Class 4A teams. They continue to jockey for postseason seeds at next week’s regional tournament. Two weeks are remaining in the Class 3A regular season. Opportunities are running out for school to be among the top four from each conference to qualify for the state tournament. Only two games feature a ranked team playing another ranked team, but that could change when the new poll comes out on Wednesday.
Wyoming High School Girls Soccer Scoreboard: April 30 – May 4, 2024
Wyoming High School girls’ soccer teams have reached Week 8 of the season. For Class 4A schools, it’s the last week of the 2024 regular season. That means it is the final opportunity to position yourself for seeding at the regional tournaments next weekend. Class 3A teams have two weeks left to reach the top four of their conference to qualify for the state tournament. Only one match has a pair of ranked teams playing, and that’s early in the week. The new poll is released on Wednesday, which could change that fact.
Photofest: Riverton Track Meet
The Roy Peck Invitational Track Meet is one of the more prestigious meets on the schedule with 9 schools competing on Monday in Fremont County. It was a great chance to improve on times and distances heading into the regional and state meets. The Cody girls took 1st place in the team standings with 187.5 points with Worland 2nd with 171. Lander took 3rd with 144 followed by Riverton 4th with 67 and Rawlins 5th with 62.5.
Wyoming Rosters Announced for 2024 Wyoming-Montana All-Star Basketball Series
The annual Wyoming-Montana All-Star basketball series will be on June 14 and 15, 2024, and the rosters for Team Wyoming were released on Tuesday. The Pronghorn Center in Gillette will be the site of games on Friday, June 14, and then the series will shift to Lockwood High School in Billings, MT, on Saturday, June 15. The girls’ games will start at 5 p.m., followed by the boys’ games at 7 p.m. both nights.
PhotoFest: Kelly Walsh Invitational Track Meet
The Kelly Walsh Invitational Track Meet was originally scheduled for Saturday but was run on Monday at a blustery Harry Geldien Stadium in Casper. Laramie placed first on the girl's side with 194 points, Kelly Walsh 2nd with 182, Natrona 3rd with 118.5 Wheatland 4th with 66.5, Southeast 5th with 63, and Elite Solutions was 6th with 20.
PhotoFest! Campbell County Vs. Thunder Basin Softball
The two best teams in girls' softball met on Thursday in Gillette as #1 Thunder Basin took on #2 Campbell County, In the first game of the doubleheader, Campbell County came out with an 11-7 win thanks to 6 runs in the 6th inning. Avery Gray of the Camels who is a 3-time All-State player had 3 hits and 2 runs batted in and Thunder Basin was led by 2-time All-State player Macie Selfors who hit 2 home runs.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Scoreboard: April 29 – May 5, 2024
Week 5 of the Legion Baseball season in Wyoming is here. Games are taking place on five days this week. The weekend will be super busy. Four teams will make their season debut this week. Those four are Buffalo, Douglas, Riverton, and Torrington. The season's first conference twin bill will also happen on Wednesday with the Hawks and Sixers squaring off in Cheyenne. There are also a handful of 9-inning games, but most are doubleheaders.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Standings: April 29, 2024
Wyoming Legion Baseball teams are through four weeks of the 2024 season. Ten teams made their season debut last week. Five of those squads earned at least one win. Two teams are undefeated entering Week 5. Those two are the Casper Drillers and Cody Cubs. Every other team that has played at least one game has at least one loss. The standings include all games played through April 28, 2024.
PhotoFest! Lusk Track Meet
A handful of schools came out for the annual Dennis Zowada Track Meet in Lusk on Saturday. It was another chance to qualify for the State Meet which is right around the corner in Casper. In the girls's team standings, Burns took 1st with 177.5, Southeast 2nd with 114 and Gordon Rushville from Nebraska was 3rd with 107. Lusk was a close 4th with 104.5, Pine Bluffs 5th with 82, and Guernsey was 6th with 20 points.

Student-athletes in soccer, softball, track, and golf have been selected as the finalists for the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming. This week’s poll allows you to vote for one of eight girls and seven boys. After receiving nominations and considering the best performances from last week, these are the finalists. These nominees performed well during competitions between April 22 and April 27, 2024. Nominations for last week are closed!
Wyoming High School Softball Scoreboard: April 29 – May 4, 2024
It is the second to last week of the regular season, and a lot of key games remain entering Week 8 of the Wyoming High School softball season. The week starts with three weather-postponed matchups. Then, the weekend features regularly scheduled games. Three ranked teams are on the road on Friday and Saturday. Only two twin bills have ranked teams facing each other. The new softball poll will be released on Wednesday.
