Sheridan Girls Basketball Postgame Remarks
Sheridan was a powerhouse in girls basketball with 16 straight winning seasons from 2001-2016. That included a 4A State Championship in 2007 and on the other hand, the Broncs had some lean years with 5 straight losing campaigns from 2017-21. They did finish 3rd at the State Tournament in 2021 and now have put it all together. Sheridan beat rival Campbell County 65-56 on Saturday in Casper to take home the 4A championship hardware.
Wyoming High School Boys Basketball 3A-4A All-Conference 2024
After the Class 3A and 4A boys’ basketball state tournaments concluded, the first postseason awards were revealed with all-conference honors on Sunday. The coaches voted on these players and selected a player of the year. No Coach of the Year awards were provided in the release. There were 16 players selected in 3A in the two regions, East and West, for all-conference. For class 4A, 14 players were chosen from the two regions. Class 4A also released a Defensive Player of the Year honor.
2024 Wyoming High School 3A-4A Girls Basketball All-Conference Awards
Post-season honors for the 2023-24 girls’ high school basketball season have been released. It’s the Class 3A and 4A all-conference accolades. The coaches voted on these players and selected the player of the year in the two regions. None of the coach of the year honors were in the release. There were 16 players in the 3A East and 3A West. Twelve players were selected from the 4A East and 4A West.
Cheyenne Central Boys Basketball Postgame Remarks
Cheyenne Central was ranked #1 in 4A Basketball for a good portion of the season and came into the State Tournament as the #2 seed from the East with a loss to Laramie in the regional final. The Tribe atoned for that defeat with a 62-59 win over the Plainsmen on Saturday in Casper to take home the championship trophy.
PhotoFest! Douglas 3A Girls Basketball Reigns Supreme….Again
The Douglas Dynasty in 3A Girls' Basketball added another chapter on Saturday in Casper as they defeated Buffalo 54-33 to win their 4th consecutive State Championship. Douglas joins Jackson and Star Valley as the only 3A schools to win 4 straight in girls' basketball. Gillette won 5 in a row in 4A girls' hoops in the 1990s and Douglas will have a good chance at equalling that mark as they'll return the bulk of this year's team for 2024-25.
PhotoFest: Powell Finally Breaks Through and Wins 3A Hoops Crown
It wasn't too long ago that the Powell boys basketball program was going through some lean years. The Panthers won just 12 games over a 3-year period from 2016-18 but came to life last season with 19 wins. This season, Powell made that next big step forward by securing a 3A State Championship with a 49-34 win over Wheatland in Casper on Saturday. Not only did they win the championship trophy but they also ran the table at 26-0. That's not easy to do.
PhotoFest: Sheridan Earns 4A Championship in Girls Basketball
The 4A Girls State Basketball Tournament had some unexpected turns in Casper last week. Cody was the tournament favorite but lost to Sheridan in the semi-final when star player Molly Hays went down with a knee injury. Cheyenne East was looking for their 3rd state title in the last 4 years but they were defeated by Campbell County in the other semi-final game.
PhotoFest! Cheyenne Central Holds Off Laramie for 4A Hoops Crown
Cheyenne Central and Laramie are certainly not strangers on the basketball court and the 4A East rivals met in Casper with a state championship on the line in Casper on Saturday night. Laramie just beat Central 80-72 in the 4A East regional final and these teams were evenly matched. Cheyenne Central had a 10-point lead in the first half and Laramie stormed back into the game in the 3rd quarter. Central surged ahead in the 4th with a succession of 3-pointers and still had to hold off a last-second 3-point attempt by the Plainsmen to secure the victory.
WyoPreps Athlete of the Week – Alpine Skiing: March 9, 2024
Part two of our Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for March 6, 2024, goes to a pair of downhill skiers from state champion Jackson. The girls’ honoree was Dylan Witherite, and the boys’ recipient was Liam Logan. These were based on performances from Feb. 26 through March 2, 2024.
PhotoFest: State 4A Basketball Tournament-Friday
The State 4A Basketball Tournament moved into its 2nd day of action in Casper with semi-final round play and consolation round play. On the girl's side, defending 4A champion Cody was beaten by Sheridan 39-34. Cody's All-State player Molly Hays went down with a knee injury with just over 5 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter and did not return. That was a huge loss for the Broncs and Sheridan took advantage of that as they outscored Cody 18-7 in the 3rd quarter. Sheridan was led in scoring by Adeline Burgess with 12 as the Broncs improved to 20-6 on the season.
WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors – Indoor Track: March 8, 2024
Five standout track and field athletes were part of those who received the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for March 6, 2024. Two of the girls’ recipients were from state champion Cheyenne East in Taliah Morris and Maggie Madsen. The other girl who was recognized with Star Valley’s Valerie Jirak. For the boys, it was a pair of three-event champions in Lander’s Reed McFadden and Kaiden Lee from Natrona County. These were based on performances from Feb. 26 through March 2, 2024.
PhotoFest: 3A State Basketball-Thursday
The State 3A Basketball Tournament kicked off at the Ford Center in Casper. On the boys' side, both of the #1 seeds advanced to the semi-final round as Powell dispatched Rawlins 76-45 and Douglas beat Pinedale 80-52. Wheatland, a #3 seed defeated Lovell 43-41, hitting the game-winning shot at the buzzer while Buffalo, a #2 seed beat defending champion Worland 39-35.
2024 Wyoming High School Indoor Track All-State Honors Announced
The all-state awards for the 2024 Wyoming High School indoor track season were released on Wednesday. The Wyoming Coaches Association presented all-state to individuals who finished in the top two of events or were part of a winning relay at the 2024 Wyoming High School Indoor Track State Championships on March 1 and 2 in Gillette. This was the second year for two separate classifications and more awards were earned by the student-athletes. A total of 103 individuals received recognition.
Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Standings: March 6, 2024
Wyoming high school girls' basketball teams have played 13 weeks of the 2024 season. For 16 teams the season continues this weekend. For the rest of the teams, they have completed their season, so this will be their final record. The Class 1A and 2A state champions were Southeast and Tongue River, respectively. Class 3A and 4A will hold their state championship tournament this weekend.

2024 Wyoming HS Boys Basketball 3A-4A State Championships
The final weekend of the 2024 season is finally here for 3A and 4A boys’ basketball teams in Wyoming. Two squads will earn a state championship during the second weekend in March 2024. The Class 3A and 4A boys’ basketball state tournaments will be in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center (FWC), Casper College (CC), and Kelly Walsh High School (KWHS). Both defending champions will have a shot to repeat after qualifying for the state tournament. The Worland Warriors are the defending champions in Class 3A. Cheyenne East won last year’s crown in 4A.

The last weekend of the girls’ high school basketball season in Wyoming is this weekend. The Class 3A and 4A girls’ basketball state tournaments will be in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center (FWC), Casper College (CC), and Kelly Walsh High School (KWHS). Both of last year’s champions will have a chance to defend their title after qualifying for the state tournament. The defending champion in Class 3A is the Douglas Bearcats. They’ve won the last five 3A titles. There was no state champion in 2020. The Cody Fillies are the defending champion in Class 4A.
Southeast Girls Basketball Postgame Remarks
The Southeast Cyclones have been a state championship contender for years and this program has 19 straight winning seasons. The Cyclones won their 2nd 1A State Championship in 3 years on Saturday in Casper with a 45-40 win over defending State Champion Upton. These 2 schools have met the last 3 years running for the 1A title with Southeast winning 2 of out 3.
Upton Boys Basketball Postgame Remarks
How good has the Upton boy's basketball program been lately? In the last 4 years, the Bobcats have won the State Championship in the 1A ranks 3 times along with a 2nd place finish. They have lost a grand total of 8 games over the last 4 years and capped this season with a dominating performance over Saratoga in the 1A title game. Upton had their way in that contest posting a 55-36 win as they shot 47% from the floor.
