Drew Heermann of Big Horn Signs with Northern Arizona
Big Horn had plenty of offensive weapons in football in 2023 as the Rams marched to the 2A State Championship game. One of those ingredients was Drew Heermann who was a big force running and catching the football. That kind of versatility has earned him a spot with the Northern Arizona University football program.

The prep winter season has been chugging right along and before you know it, it will be time for regional and culminating events. There's a lot of play for and compete for heading down the stretch so take a look at the faces of these athletes, giving it their all. We have a large batch of photos from basketball, wrestling, indoor track, and some skiing.
Cohen Morrow of Evanston Chooses Football at Black Hills State University
Evanston senior Cohen Morrow will play football in college after recently signing his National Letter of Intent at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. Morrow was a two-time all-state player for the Red Devils. He was a three-year starter on defense and a two-year starter on offense at quarterback.
Wyoming Boys’ Swimming & Diving Top Times Entering the 2024 State Championships
The 2024 Wyoming High School Boys’ Swimming and Diving State Championships are in Laramie over the next three days. This is a list of the top marks by swimmers, divers, and relay teams entering both the Class 4A and 3A championships. Last year, every time in Class 3A was faster than the 4A boys’ swim meet. That doesn’t happen too often, but some terrific performances were turned in. Who will be the ones to watch this weekend? WyoPreps offers an event breakdown.
Natrona’s Saige Gustafson Enjoying a Strong Indoor Track Season
Natrona junior sprinter Saige Gustafson has been flawless in the 55-meter dash on the Indoor Track circuit this season. In the four big meets this season in the state, Gustafson has placed first in all four. She ran 7.21 in Casper and the Basin Nation Meet in Gillette, 7.28 in Laramie, and 7:25 in the first Gillette Meet. Gustafson has been sharp in the 200 meters as well taking first in the event at the Basin Nation, 2nd in the first Gillette meet, and 4th in Casper. She has also been solid in the long jump with a 2nd place and a pair of 3rd place finishes.
Powell’s Jhett Schwahn Signs with Rocky Mt. for Football
Powell's Jhett Schwahn is one of the state's finest all-around athletes and had decided to pursue football at the college level at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. Schwahn was named a 3A All-State quarterback in 2023 as the Panthers posted a record of 7-3, making the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. He threw for 2032 yards and 24 touchdowns with 9 interceptions. His season-high passing-wise was 327 yards and 7 touchdown passes vs. Douglas. Schwahn was also productive running the football with 11 TDs and 456 yards rushing.

Two underclass basketball players earned The Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for Feb. 14, 2024. Sheridan freshman sensation Mesa Hanft receives the girls’ honor. Laramie junior Neil Summers gets the boys’ honor. Both enjoyed good efforts individually and helped their team to 2-0 records on the court between Feb. 5 and Feb. 10, 2024.
Wyoming High School Skiing Scoreboard: Feb. 16-17, 2024
Only Nordic skiing will compete during Week 9 of the prep skiing season in the Cowboy State. It’s the two-week delayed Cody Invite at Pahaska, west of Cody. Conditions improved just enough to allow the two race days to happen. Alpine skiers have an off week on their schedule.
PhotoFest: Sheridan & Laramie Split 4A Basketball Games on Saturday
The state's prep basketball teams have been busy lately with those regional tournaments right around the corner. In 4A boys play on Saturday, #2 Laramie outlasted Sheridan on the road in overtime 83-81. It was close from start to finish with Laramie prevailing thanks to sharp perimeter shooting. Neil Summers led the Plainsmen with 27 points and Gabe Sanchez added 19. Laramie hit 10 3-pointers in the contest and missed just one free throw out of 16 attempts as they got to 15-2 on the year. Sheridan was paced by Garrett Spielman with 26 and Cael Hamrick had 14. The Broncs dropped to 12-6 on the year.
Wind River’s Cooper Frederick Signs with Black Hills State
The Wind River football team made a remarkable run to the 1A 9-Man state championship game in 2023 and did so thanks to some heroic efforts from Cooper Frederick. As the Cougars quarterback, he ran for 1145 yards with 15 rushing touchdowns plus he threw the ball for 1000 yards and 15 passing touchdowns with just 3 interceptions. Wind River was the #1 rushing team in 1A 9-Man this past season and Frederick rang up a couple of 200+ games on the ground. He had 211 yards rushing vs. Shoshoni and 206 vs. Rocky Mountain.
Not Much is Different in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls
Not much changed in the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls on Wednesday. Four of the eight divisions were the same as last week. No new teams entered the polls, and all the top-ranked teams remained the same despite a loss for one and two close calls for another. The only thing that occurred was teams swapped spots.
Wyoming High School Wrestling Regional Scoreboard 2024
High School Wrestling Regionals are this weekend in Wyoming. Each of the three classes for the boys are split into east and west. Girls wrestle in a singular class and will be at the 3A sites based on east and west. Due to this, the 3A sites will be the only schools hosting on Friday and Saturday. 2A and 4A will host matches on Saturday only. Below you can see the breakdown of teams and sites.
Campbell County’s Averi DeWine Signs for Soccer at Gillette College
Campbell County senior Averi DeWine will be playing soccer at the next level. She chose to stay home and compete at Gillette College. The Pronghorns revived their program last fall, and DeWine has signed on in their second recruiting class since returning to competition. She is a three-year letter winner and two-year starter for the Camels.
Gillette’s Levi Palmer Signs for Football at Montana Tech
Campbell County all-state linebacker Levi Palmer is furthering his football future after signing at Montana Tech. The senior was a three-year starter for the Camels on the gridiron. Palmer was a two-time all-state and all-conference selection in 2022 and 2023. He also earned the 4A East Conference Defensive Player of the Year award in 2022.
Emma Hofmeister of Central Signs with Black Hills State
Emma Hofmeister of Cheyenne Central is coming off a solid outdoor track season and found her way to the podium on more than one occasion at the State Outdoor Meet. With accomplishments like that, she earned a spot on the track and cross-country teams at Black Hills State in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Wyoming High School Indoor Track Scoreboard: Feb. 15-17, 2024
The 2024 Wyoming prep indoor track season is in Week 6. Teams and individuals are either at a prestigious national meet or on a competition hiatus. The 44th Simplot Games draw some of the top competitors from around the country to the ICCU Dome at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID. Any high school athlete can enter one open running event, two relay events, and two field events, according to the Simplot Games registration information page. Standards must be met if an athlete wants to enter a second open running event.
PhotoFest: Cheyenne East Sweeps Campbell County in 4A Basketball
One of the more anticipated match-ups in 4A girls basketball was in Gillette on Friday as #1 Cheyenne East met #3 Campbell County. There wasn't much scoring for either team in the first quarter as Campbell County led 4-2 after one. But East exploded for 17 points in the 2nd quarter and another 17 in the 3rd quarter to win this battle 47-34. The Thunderbirds got 16 points from Bradie Schlabs and she had been averaging 13 points a game. The Camels were led by Lauren Kubacher with 16.
Who Should Be the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Winners 2-12-24? [POLLS]
The finalists have been selected for the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors, presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming. After receiving nominations and considering the best performances for this week's awards, there are six girls, three boys, and two boys’ teams you can vote for. These nominees performed well during competitions between Feb. 5, 2024, and Feb. 10, 2024, in alpine skiing, basketball, indoor track, and wrestling.
Sheridan’s Terran Grooms Signs with Rocky Mountain for Football

Wyoming High School Boys Basketball Scoreboard: Feb. 12-17, 2024
The prep basketball season in Wyoming is winding down with Week 11 of 2024. Teams in Class 1A and 2A conclude their regular season this week. That means more jockeying for seeding at next week’s regional tournaments. The big schools, in 4A and 3A, have two weeks left. For 3A, it’s a mix of cross-quad and conference games. Class 4A is only league play. Some interclass games are also on the schedule. Five games feature ranked teams going head-to-head.
