Wyoming High School Indoor Track Scoreboard: Feb. 9-10, 2024
The 2024 prep indoor track season in Wyoming rolls along with the fifth week of the season. Counting this weekend, there are just four competition weekends left in the indoor season, and one of those is the state championships. Also, next week sees the focus shift to the Simplot Games, which means for many track student-athletes, there’s even less time left in the year. Sheridan will hold a meet in Gillette on Friday. Casper hosts several teams on Saturday. Utah has a distance and sprint challenge on two separate days.
Wyoming High School Skiing Scoreboard: Feb. 9-10, 2024
Both disciplines of high school skiing in Wyoming will be in action this weekend, as they look to take advantage of conditions in Lander and Casper. Nordic skiers head to South Pass for competition, while Alpine goes back to Casper for the second time in three weekends. The Week 8 schedule features the Lander Invite and another Casper Invite.
Wyoming High School Boys Swimming Scoreboard: Feb. 6-9, 2024
Boys’ swimmers and divers around the state have one final opportunity. It’s the ‘Last Chance’ swim meet for teams in the state. Swimmers and divers need to qualify this week to have a chance at being part of next week’s state championships in Laramie. The Last Chance events are spread throughout the week. A few teams are opting to train and not compete. All the swim meets will be done by Friday night.
Jimmy Dees of Powell Achieves 100th Win on the Wrestling Mat
Powell senior Jimmy Dees got his 100th career win on the wrestling mat at the recent Ron Thon Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Riverton. It helped Dees to the 215-pound title at the event and improve to 29-2 on the season with 28 pins. The senior won his first four matches at the Ron Thon by fall. In the finals, Dees pulled out an 8-7 decision over a foe from Riverton. It was his victory in the quarterfinals that helped Jimmy reach the milestone.
Lusk’s Cory Bruegger Joins the 1,000-Point Club
Lusk Tiger senior Cory Bruegger is one of the most recent prep basketball players in Wyoming to pass 1,000 points in his career. He accomplished the feat last Friday in the Tigers’ upset of No. 1 Lingle-Ft. Laramie, 82-67. Bruegger scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out six assists. He shot 7-10 from the field and was 5-5 at the free-throw line. With the victory, Lusk improved to 13-4 on the season and 3-1 in the 2A Southeast Quadrant.
PhotoFest! Star Valley Splits with Cody in 4A Basketball
Star Valley made the trip over to Cody on Friday for a 4A basketball match-up and the Star Valley boys have been formidable this season. The Braves posted a 64-39 road win as they were sharp from the perimeter. This is a good shooting team that hits 48% of their shots from 2-point range and 35% from 3-point range. Star Valley connected on a dozen 3-pointers vs. Cody. They have been led in scoring by Max Jensen who has been averaging 12 points a game with Dylan Shumway and Cooper Lancaster throwing in 10 per game. The Braves also beat Riverton on that long road swing and sits at 13-3 on the year. The Broncs are 5-9 on the year and have been paced by Chase Hatch at 12 points per game.

Wyoming High School Boys Basketball Scoreboard: Feb. 5-10, 2024
Prep boys’ basketball teams are onto Week 10 of the 2024 season. Just like the girls, either two or three weeks are all that remains in the regular season. Conference and interclass contests are throughout the 1A and 2A slate of games. Class 3A features both conference and cross-quad games. The big school division will have its second straight week of cross-quad action versus teams from the same region. There are six games this week that feature a ranked team against another ranked team.
Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Scoreboard: Feb. 5-10, 2024
The girls’ high school basketball regular season continues to wind down. For some teams, two weeks are left in the regular season, while others have three weeks remaining. The Week 10 schedule is played over five days. Class 1A and 2A teams have numerous conference matchups. Class 3A is a mix of conference games and cross-quad action. Class 4A has its second straight cross-quad slate of games against teams within the same region. Only four games this week feature ranked teams squaring off against each other.

Taliah Morris of Cheyenne East Continues to Impress in Track & Field
One of the stars in girls' track and field in Wyoming is Taliah Morris from Cheyenne East who excels in the long jump and the sprint races. At the Basin Nation Indoor Track Meet in Gillette on Friday, Morris unleashed a long jump of 19 feet 3 and a quarter inches to win the event and at the 2023 State Indoor Meet, Morris went 19-2 to establish a new indoor state record. She's been very successful on the indoor circuit and posted the best prelim time in the 55-meter dash in Gillette last week with a clocking of 7.24 but did not compete in the finals. Morris had a tremendous 2023 State Indoor meet with gold medals in the 55-meter dash and the 200.
Madison Foley of Burns Signs with Colby College for Volleyball
Burns Volleyball player Madison Foley has settled on Colby Community College in Kansas as the next stop on her athletic journey. She was named All-Conference in 2A in 2023 as a libero. Her team finished 2nd at the 2A State Tournament last season, losing to Big Horn 3 sets to 1 but in Foley's junior season, the Broncs were 2A State Champions as they defeated Big Horn 3 sets to one.
PhotoFest! Rawlins Wrestling Tournament
The wrestling season has been rolling along with one big meet tournament after another it seems like. The Rumble in Rawlins was a smaller event with 10 Wyoming teams competing. It was also a time to get some other wrestlers some mat time as Regionals and the State Tournament will be coming up soon. For the boys, this was a dual-format so there was no shortage of action.

There wasn't a lot of movement in the standings due to fewer conference games compared to so many cross-quadrant games, but there is a new team atop the 2A Southeast Quadrant. The standings some some movement in Class 1A with some conference action, but the other three classifications did not play many league games. There were a lot of cross-quad contests last week.
