Wyoming Legion Baseball Scoreboard: July 8-14, 2024
Wyoming Legion Baseball’s regular season is quickly coming to an end. This is Week 15 of the 2024 season. Several conference games over the next 11 days will determine the final seedings at the Single-A West District Tournament or the Single-A East District playoff series. Double-A teams have two-to-three weeks remaining in their regular season. There are conference twin bills at the AA level, but some teams are involved in tournaments in Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, or Utah.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Standings: July 8, 2024
Fourteen weeks of the 2024 Legion baseball season in Wyoming are complete. While the records changed, there was little movement in the latest standings for teams at the top two levels in the state. The Lovell Mustangs, Sheridan Jets, Cheyenne Sixers, and Gillette Riders won tournaments over the past weekend. The Casper Oilers still lead the AA division. The Casper Drillers, Cody Cubs, and Evanston Outlaws are still in first in their divisions at the A level. Cody ran their win streak to 14 straight games. The Sixers have won eight in a row. The standings include all games played through July 7, 2024.
Team USA Rallies to Win CanAm Bowl XXVI, 65-44
Team USA held Canada scoreless in the fourth quarter and won CanAm Bowl XXVI, 65-44, on Saturday in Meeteetse, WY. It was the first time the game was played in Wyoming, and it was only the second time it was played in the U.S. This marked the 12th win in the last 13 games for Team USA.

An outstanding track athlete and baseball player received the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors. The selections were Star Valley’s Valerie Jirk and Cody’s Trey Schroeder. Those three received the honors for their performances from June 24 through June 30, 2024. WYOPREPS...
WyoPreps Spotlight: Cody Cubs Baseball 2024 [VIDEO]
One of the hottest teams in American Legion Baseball in Wyoming is the Cody Cubs. They have won 12 straight games entering Friday’s conference doubleheader at Riverton. Cody was up and down for various reasons to start the 2024 season. Since a game two victory over rival Powell on June 18, which was a 4-3 victory, Cody has not lost.
2024 Wyoming Coaches Foundation All-Star Rosters Revealed
Rosters and information for the annual “Wyoming Coaches Foundation North-South All-Star Games” was released on Wednesday for the 2024 edition. The games will be on July 20 in Casper at T-Bird gym at Casper College. The volleyball match starts at 1 p.m., followed by the girls’ basketball game at approximately 3 p.m. and the boys’ basketball game at approximately 5 p.m.

CanAm Bowl XXVI is Saturday in Meeteetse, as Team USA plays Team Canada in a 6-man all-star football game. This is the first time the game is being played in Wyoming, and only the second time it’s in the U.S. The game starts at 2 p.m. at Meeteetse High School. Team USA features some top players from Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, and Texas.
Cody’s Trey Schroeder Signs for Baseball at Colby Community College
Cody Cubs veteran Trey Schroeder will continue his baseball career after signing with Colby Community College in Colby, KS. Trey’s signing furthers a family tradition at the school. Trey’s dad played baseball at Colby CC in the 1990s, his mother attended school there, and his brother, Jackson, is playing baseball for the Trojans.
Bryli Groll from Cokeville Will Run Track at the University of Wyoming
Cokeville’s Bryli Groll has signed with the University of Wyoming track and field program. Groll was a three-time state champion in the 800 meters, three-time state champion in the 1600 meters, two-time state champion in the 3200 meters, and a state champion in the 400 meters. She holds the Class 1A state record in the 1600 (5:21.44) and 3200 meters (11:50.81). Groll also holds school records at CHS in the 1600 meters, girls’ javelin, and the Sprint Medley Relay.
Cody’s Scott Shaffer Wins National Coach of the Year Honor
Longtime Cody coach Scott Shaffer was selected as the girls’ assistant Coach of the Year at the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) convention last week in North Dakota. Coach Shaffer was unable to attend this year’s event for various reasons, but congratulations on a well-deserved award. The annual NHSACA convention was in Bismarck, ND, on June 22-27, 2024.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Scoreboard: July 1-7, 2024
American Legion Baseball teams are in Week 14 of Wyoming’s 2024 season. The week begins with numerous conference doubleheaders. Then, tournament action takes over the weekend. Douglas and Gillette have tournaments for A-level teams, while Cheyenne has a Double-A tournament for the second straight weekend. The Gillette Riders and Rock Springs Stallions head to tournaments in North Dakota and Idaho, respectively.

The Casper Oilers are alone atop the AA standings. The Casper Drillers and Evanston Outlaws continue their divisional leads and are the only two teams undefeated in league games. The standings include all games played through June 30, 2024.

Isabell Salas of Green River Signs with Central Wyoming for Golf
Green River golfer Isabell Salas has been remarkably consistent in her prep career and she has been near the top of the leaderboard at the last 4 State Tournaments in 3A. All that dedication has paid some dividends as she will continue her career on the links at Central Wyoming College from Riverton. If it weren't for Erika Cook of Lovell, Salas would have won 4 state championships but Salas finished a very respectable 2nd in each of those 4 years to Cook.
Gavin Stafford Selected Gatorade Wyoming Boys Track and Field Player of the Year 2023-24
Big Horn High School sprinter Gavin Stafford was chosen as the 2023-24 winner of the Gatorade Wyoming Boys Track and Field Player of the Year on Thursday. In its 39th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Stafford is the first Gatorade Wyoming Boys Track and Field Player of the Year from Big Horn High School.
Cody’s Charlie Hulbert Signs with Alaska-Anchorage for Track
Cody distance runner Charlie Hulbert found himself on top of the podium plenty of times in his senior season and will run track at the college level at Alaska-Anchorage. At the 2024 State Outdoor Track Championships, Hulbert won the 4A title in the 800 meters in 1.57.14 and also won the 1600 meters in 4.23.34. In addition to those state championships, his 1600 medley relay team also placed 1st. Hulbert had a solid outdoor track season as a junior as he took 3rd at the State Championships in the 800 and the 1600 with his 4x800 relay team placing 2nd and the 1600 medley squad taking 7th.

The first winner of the WyoPreps Athlete of the Year award for Boys’ Outdoor Track and Field, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear, is Big Horn’s Gavin Stafford. Stafford. He capped an outstanding senior season with three individual titles, a state record, three class records, a relay win, and a team title at last month’s state track championships.
WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Girls Track 2023-24: East’s Taliah Morris [VIDEO]
Cheyenne East’s Taliah Morris swept the first WyoPreps Athlete of the Year awards for Girls’ Indoor Track and Field and Outdoor Track and Field. The honor was presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear. Morris won six individual state championships, set five state records, and helped her team to an indoor title and runner-up finish in the outdoor season. She consistently performed at a high level through both the indoor and outdoor track seasons.
