Buffalo’s Carly Norman Looking For the Next Big Stride in Track
Carly Norman of Buffalo has enjoyed a solid track career in the high school ranks and yet is still searching for a coveted state title. She had finished 2nd in the various hurdle events at state championship events, either indoor or outdoor. There's certainly no shortage of motivation in her senior season.
PhotoFest! Gillette Indoor Track Meet #2
The Indoor Track season rolled along on Friday with the annual Basin Nation meet in Gillette. This was the 2nd event of the year held at the Campbell County Rec Center. On the girl's side, Natrona's Saige Gustafson won two events, the 55 and 200-meter dashes. while Cheyenne East's Maggie Jensen won the 800 and 3200-meter runs. For the boys, Brad Ekstrom from Thunder Basin won the 200 and the 400. Here is a rundown of the top two finishers in each event:
Green River’s Tavia Arnell is the 2023-24 WyoPreps Athlete of the Year for Girls Swimming [VIDEO]
Green River sophomore Tavia Arnell is the first winner of the WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Award for Girls’ Swimming and Diving. It is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and in cooperation with Wyld Gear. Arnell led Green River to a state championship and won events at the state swim meet in Gillette.
WyoPreps 2023-24 Football Athlete of the Year is Sheridan’s Dane Steel [VIDEO]
The WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Award is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and in cooperation with Wyld Gear. The first recipient of our football honor is Sheridan senior Dane Steel. He finished an outstanding prep football career by leading his team to a third state championship and has swept all the major awards in Wyoming High School football.
‘Wyoming Doesn’t Exist’ Is Trending Again, But Do We Really Mind?
There are a lot of crazy conspiracy theories running rampant throughout the country right now, but one of the most insane one is that "Wyoming doesn't exist". Most folks that use the terminology are just having fun. The Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards for Jan. 31, 2024, go to a standout girls’ indoor track performer and two top-tier boys’ wrestlers. Star Valley senior Valerie Jirak earns the girls’ award. Kemmerer junior Roany Proffit and Lovell senior James Love share the boys’ accolade. It was for last week’s performances on the track and wrestling mat between Jan. 22 and Jan. 27, 2024.
Wyoming High School Skiing Scoreboard: Feb. 2-3, 2024
Enough snow is around for alpine skiers to compete this weekend, but thanks to deteriorating conditions because of the warmer weather this week, Nordic skiers will not compete. Alpine heads north for the Cody Invite, while Nordic is postponed for two weeks. The high school skiing season is at Week 7.

Wyoming High School Boys Swimming Scoreboard: Feb. 2-3, 2024
The 2024 Wyoming High School boys’ swimming and diving season is the first to reach the postseason. Teams head to four sites for the conference championships on Friday and Saturday. Class 3A competes in Gillette and Pinedale. Class 4A will hold theirs in Casper and Gillette. The 3A East and 4A East will hold their events at the same venue. The meets will run simultaneously with the 3A heats going first, followed by the 4A heats.
Three Schools Join the Latest WyoPreps Basketball Rankings
The more of the season that goes by, the more things stay the same. The new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls didn’t change much from last week. Sure, there was some shuffling, and a couple of new teams made their debut, but overall, the polls have seen most of the same teams for a majority of the 2024 season.
Wyoming Indian Sweeps St. Stephens in 2A Basketball
Wyoming Indian and St. Stephens met on the basketball floor in Lander back on Friday with Wyoming Indian prevailing in both boy's and girl's play. In the boys' game, Wyoming Indian played a sharp 4th quarter to beat St. Stephens 67-56. The Chiefs have been led this season by Darwin Gambler who has been averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds per game. He threw in 18 against the Eagles with Tyson Soundingside contributing 17. Wyoming Indian had 4 players in double figures in the contest and sport a record of 14-5. The Chiefs are #2 in 2A in both scoring and rebounding.

Wyoming High School Boys Basketball Scoreboard: Jan. 30 – Feb. 3, 2024
The 2024 high school boys’ basketball season in the Cowboy State is in Week 9, which means the schedule goes into February. Most of Classes 4A and 3A will feature cross-quadrant games. Those are not conference games, but they can factor into regional tournament seeds, if necessary. In 1A and 2A, there are many conference tilts, but also a mix of interclass and cross-quad games to round out the schedule. Some postponed games from earlier in the season are part of this week’s slate, as well.
McKenna Barham of Laramie Enjoying a Solid Wrestling Season
Laramie athlete McKenna Barham has made a name for herself on the soccer pitch as a two-time All-State goalkeeper. Now she is making a name for herself in wrestling as she took 1st place at 130 pounds in the huge Ron Thon Tournament in Riverton. Barham defeated Wheatland's Ariel Kumelos to get to the top of the podium with a 7-3 decision. She had 4 pins on the way to the championship match.
Moorcroft’s Rebekah Anderson Adds Ron Thon Title to Her Resume
Moorcroft wrestler Rebehak Anderson started at a young age and now all that experience is bearing some stunning results. At the huge Ron Thon Tournament in Riverton, Anderson captured the 110-pound title with a win over Molly Bornhoft of Wind River by fall. She had a grueling match in the semi-final round beating Allison Leblanc of Powell 2-0 and so far this season Anderson is 18-7.
PhotoFest! Cody Sweeps Natrona in 4A Basketball
Cody played host to Natrona in 4A hoops on Saturday with Cody taking both the boy's and girls' games. The Cody girls went 25-0 last season to win the 4A championship and started last week with a 56-40 win over Powell on Tuesday and then downed Natrona 55-22. All-State player Molly Hays was back in the line-up after sitting out a bit due to a broken nose but she had been averaging 21 points a game which leads 4A. Grace Hays and Ellie Talich have been throwing in 10 points per contest so the Fillies have some balance on offense. They are currently 11-1 on the season. Natrona is 3-10 and is looking to get back to the State Tournament after missing out last year. The NC Fillies have been led in scoring by Lexi Ransom with 11 points per game and Camryn Costello has been throwing in 6 points per contest.
