Buffalo’s Eli Patterson Has Passed 1000 Points in His Prep Career
Buffalo senior Eli Patterson is one of the newest members of the 1000-point club, as he was celebrated for passing the mark recently by Buffalo High School. A four-year starter for the Bison, Patterson is averaging 14.6 points per game during his final season of high school basketball and shooting 51 percent from the field.

This week’s finalists for the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors, which are presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming, have been selected. The pool of candidates was narrowed after receiving nominations and considering the best performances for this week's awards. These nominees performed well during competitions between Jan. 22, 2024, and Jan. 27, 2024, in basketball, wrestling, indoor track, and cheerleading. Nominations for this week are closed!
Roany Proffit of Kemmerer Wins 3rd Ron Thon Wrestling Title
Kemmerer wrestler Roany Proffit became the 23rd boy to win the prestigious Ron Thon wrestling tournament 3 times and he really had to work hard for that 3rd belt on Saturday afternoon in Riverton. In the 126-pound weight division, Proffit squared off to Spencer Wright of Green River in the title match and Wright took a 5-0 lead. Proffit showed a tremendous amount of resolve to reel off the next 7 points to win 7-5. He's 25-4 this season and joins some elite company with a three-peat at this all-class tournament.
PhotoFest! Laramie Indoor Track Meet
The Indoor Track season rolled along on Friday with the 307 Invitational at the University of Wyoming Fieldhouse in Laramie. Now the track circumference at UW is smaller than the tracks in Casper and Gillette so it was a tight squeeze with all those athletes. But the atmosphere was cool and it was a great warm-up for Friday's big meet in Gillette. Here is a rundown of the top 2 finishers in each event.
Wyoming High School Boys Basketball Standings: Jan. 28, 2024
The prep basketball season for boys in Wyoming finished its eighth-week last week. There are two teams still undefeated, Powell and Cheyenne Central. Three schools are searching for their first win of 2024. Overall, most teams are at or near the midpoint of conference action. A few teams have played a little more. With ten ranked teams losing last week, see what it did to the standings in every quadrant. This update reflects all games played through Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024.
Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Standings: Jan. 28, 2024
The girls' basketball season for Wyoming High School teams has gone through eight weeks of the 2024 season. There is one team remaining with an undefeated record: Douglas. Two teams still seek their first win of the season. Sixteen teams are still unbeaten in conference games with every league at least to the midpoint of conference action. A few quadrants have played a few more games compared to most. The standings are updated for all games played through Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024.

Week 8 of the 2024 prep basketball season in Wyoming finished on Saturday. Five ranked girls’ teams suffered at least one loss last week. Ten ranked boys’ squads took a loss last week. That included a No. 1 who got knocked off on Saturday. Two boys’ teams in the top five fell twice last week. The trials and tribulations of the 2024 season continue, as we’re a month away from the postseason. Star Valley’s Habtamu Wetzel Chosen the Gatorade Wyoming Boys Cross Country Player of the Year 2023-24
Star Valley junior Habtamu Wetzel was named the Gatorade Wyoming Boys Cross Country Player of the Year on Friday in a release from The Gatorade Company. Wetzel receives the honor for the first time in his prep career. He is the third winner of this award from Star Valley High School, joining Peter Visser and Shane Henderson in that distinction.
KW Soccer Player Parker O’Neill Signs With Casper College
Kelly Walsh stand-out soccer player Parker O'Neil will be staying close to home after his prep career as he committed to the Casper College program. O'Neill is a two-time All-State selection in 4A and led the team in goals with 11 and assists with 10 as the Trojans went 16-2 this past season. KW ended up taking 4th place at the 4A State Tournament. he had a 3-goal match vs. Evanston and a 3-assist match vs. Rock Springs. O'Neill also had a goal and 2 assists against Natrona.

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Award is a presentation of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming in cooperation with Wyldgear. The first girls’ tennis honor goes to Kelly Walsh senior Taylor Nokes. The choice of Nokes was a close call with another highly regarded player in the state, but Nokes’ victory in the title match last fall proved to be the difference.
Cheyenne South’s Andrew Lock is the 2023-24 WyoPreps Athlete of the Year for Boys Tennis [VIDEO]
The WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Award is a presentation of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming in cooperation with Wyldgear. Our first boys’ tennis honor goes to Cheyenne South senior Andrew Lock. Numerous coaches around the state called it a “no-brainer” for Lock to receive this award.
Taylor Nokes of Kelly Walsh Commits to Colorado Mesa for Tennis
Taylor Nokes of Kelly Walsh has blossomed as a tennis player over the past couple of years and that success will take her to Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. She is a three-time All-State selection and is the reigning girls' state champion in #1 singles. Nokes lost 3 matches total in her 4 year career at KW but her last prep win was certainly the biggest.
Natrona’s Bridger Anderson Signs with Black Hills St. for Track
Natrona track and field performer Bridger Anderson has decided on Black Hills State in Spearfish, South Dakota as the next stop on his athletic journey. Last week at the Gillette Indoor Track Meet, He took 2nd in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.13 and his Mustang 4x200 meter relay team took 3rd. In the 55-meter dash, Anderson was 13th in the preliminaries which isn't bad considering 180 runners were competing in the event.

The Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards for Jan. 24, 2024, go to a girls’ wrestler and a jumper in boys' indoor track. Pinedale sophomore McKinzie Mortensen and Natrona County senior Kaiden Lee earned recognition for last week’s performances on the wrestling mat and track.
Wyoming High School Indoor Track Scoreboard: Jan. 25-27, 2024
Three days of action for indoor track are part of Week 3 in the 2024 season. The largest track meet will be in Laramie on Friday. That’s after Gillette holds a triangular on Thursday. Some schools are heading to either Idaho or Utah for competition this weekend. Other schools are off this weekend and using it to continue their training. The state championships are only five weeks away.
Wyoming High School Skiing Scoreboard: Jan. 24-26, 2024
For the second straight week, downhill skiers will be back on the slopes with their second action of the 2024 season. This weekend is the make-up for the invitational on Casper Mountain that was postponed two weeks ago. For Nordic skiers, this will be their first weekend off in January. It is Week 6 of the 2024 high school skiing season.
