Who Should be the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week 4-29-24? [POLLS]
Student-athletes in soccer, softball, track, and golf have been selected as the finalists for the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming. This week’s poll allows you to vote for one of eight girls and seven boys. After receiving nominations and considering the best performances from last week, these are the finalists. These nominees performed well during competitions between April 22 and April 27, 2024. Nominations for last week are closed!
Wyoming High School Softball Scoreboard: April 29 – May 4, 2024
It is the second to last week of the regular season, and a lot of key games remain entering Week 8 of the Wyoming High School softball season. The week starts with three weather-postponed matchups. Then, the weekend features regularly scheduled games. Three ranked teams are on the road on Friday and Saturday. Only two twin bills have ranked teams facing each other. The new softball poll will be released on Wednesday.
Wyoming High School Softball Standings: April 29, 2024
Prep softball teams in the Cowboy State have completed seven weeks of the 2024 season. There are just a couple of weeks left in the regular season. After last week's games, there is a new leader in the East Conference. The West Conference remains a two-team race for the top spot. The standings include all games played through April 27, 2024.
Wyoming High School Outdoor Track Scoreboard: April 29 – May 4, 2024
Week 8 is the final week of the regular season for high school track and field teams across Wyoming. Two track meets got moved from last Saturday to Monday. Those were in Casper and Riverton. The rest of the week features track meets in Gillette, Douglas, Mountain View, Big Horn, Cody, Pine Bluffs, Thermopolis, Sundance, Kaycee, Jackson, Torrington, and Lander. Some schools are sending athletes to the BYU High School meet in Provo on Friday and Saturday.
Wyoming High School Boys Soccer Standings: April 28, 2024
The prep boys' soccer season in Wyoming is through seven weeks of the 2024 season. Two conference leaders changed after last week's action on the pitch. Worland regained the lead in the 3A East, while Jackson moved into a tie for the top in the 4A West. Green River and Cheyenne Central continued to lead their league. The standings include all matches played through April 27, 2024.
Wyoming High School Girls Soccer Standings: April 28, 2024
High School girls' soccer teams have finished seven weeks of the 2024 season in Wyoming. There was not a lot of movement in the latest standings after last week's games. The four conference leaders are still Lander, Worland, Kelly Walsh, and Campbell County. The updated standings include all matches played through April 27, 2024.
PhotoFest: Buffalo “Not A Twilight” Track Meet
Buffalo played host to their 2nd track meet of the season on Friday with 9 schools competing, Pre-qualification for the State Meet is the name of the game now so for some athletes there is work to do. In the boy's team standings, Thunder Basin placed first with 164.5 points, Buffalo 2nd with 106, Big Horn took 3rd with 78,5, Campbell County 4th with 68.5 and Tongue River 5th with 64. On the ladies' side, Buffalo placed first with 120 followed by Thunder Basin with 88, Campbell County rang up 82.5, Douglas with 71.5, and Tongue River was 5th with 69. The top two finishers in each event are as follows:
PhotoFest! Wyoming Track Classic
The Wyoming Track Classic was held on Thursday at the Harry Geldien Stadium in Casper with cool, cloudy but calm conditions. A pair of WTC records were broken as Taliah Morris of Cheyenne East set a new mark in the long jump at 19-7.25 and Thunder Basin's Bradley Ekstrom set the new standard in the 400 in 48.12. The bad news from the meet was Natrona's Kaiden Lee suffered a broken ankle and ligament damage in the high jump. He won the event at 6-6 and was going for 6-8 when he got hurt. The senior had the state's best marks this season in both the high jump and the long jump.
Green River’s Stone Rubeck Signs for Soccer at South Dakota Mines
Green River senior Stone Rubeck will continue his playing days after committing to play soccer at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City, SD. Rubeck is a four-year starter and two-time team captain for the Wolves. Rubeck has scored 17 career goals at GRHS and split time between being a striker/forward, a defender, and a midfielder. He helped Green River to a consolation trophy at the 3A state championships in the 2023 season.

2024 Wyoming Track Classic Comes to Casper on Friday
Aiming to bring together the best track and field athletes in the state, the Wyoming Track and Field Classic is in Casper on Friday, weather permitting. This outdoor track meet is for the top track student-athletes regardless of classification. It features the eight fastest times on the track for the sprints and mid-distance, the top 12 for the 1600 and 3200 meters, and the nine top marks and ties in field events. Student-athletes are only able to compete in a maximum of two events. Not all the top track athletes and schools choose to attend.
Caleb Ortberg of Kelly Walsh Commits to Black Hills St. for Track
Kelly Walsh track athlete Caleb Ortberg has chosen Black Hills State in South Dakota as his next stop on his athletic journey. He won the 4A Indoor State Championship in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.77. Ortberg was also on the Trojans 4x400 relay team that placed 4th and the 4x200 that took 6th. In his junior season at the State Indoor Championships, he was 3rd in the 4A 55 hurdles and his 4x200 & 4x400 relay squads placed 4th.
Four Share the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honor 4-24-24 [VIDEO]
Three rodeo contestants and a terrific individual day on the track earned the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards for April 24, 2024. The girls’ honor was shared between rodeo cowgirl Kloe Nichols and Lusk senior track athlete Melody ZumBrunnen. The boys’ award went to rodeo cowboy team ropers Cam Johnson and Cael Espenscheid. They were chosen for their wonderful performances during the week of April 15 through April 20, 2024.
Wright’s Jazmin McOmber Inks with Hastings College for Volleyball
Wright volleyball player Jazmin McOmber certainly has enough talent to play at the college level and has committed to the Hastings College program in Nebraska. She was an All-State performer in her senior season with the Panthers from the libero spot and recorded 479 digs which led 2A. McOmber was also named to the 2A All-State list as a junior and finished her prep career with a whopping 1527 digs. Her serving percentage over the course of the last two seasons was 91.6%. Over that same period, the Panthers won 40 matches.
Trig Berens of Natrona Signs with Clark College for Baseball
Trig Berens has moved up the baseball ladder in Casper and will take his skills to Vancouver, Washington to play for Clark College, Berens in his junior year with the Casper Oilers American Legion was a mainstay on their pitching staff as that team made the "AA" State Championship game, losing to Cheyenne Post 6. Berens was an all-conference pick as a sophomore with the Casper Drillers and received plenty of playing time with the Casper Crush growing up.
Nothing Different in the Latest WyoPreps Coaches and Media Softball Rankings

Changes at the Top of 4A and New Teams Highlight the WyoPreps Soccer Rankings
The latest WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Polls featured a new top-ranked team in 4A girls, a tie for No. 1 in 4A boys, and three teams that entered the rankings. After they moved into a tie for first in the 4A East Conference, Campbell County jumped to the top in 4A girls. Cheyenne Central moved up in 4A boys and shared the top spot with Kelly Walsh. The 3A top teams, Cody in girls and Torrington in boys did not change.
Abagail Olson of Sheridan Signs with Fort Hays St. for Rodeo
Sheridan's Abagail Olson will continue her rodeo career at the college level as she was committed to Fort Hays State in Kansas. Olson is coming off a strong performance at the 2023 National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette by taking 4th place in the barrel racing. That's not easy to do considering there were 195 contestants in the event but Olson placed 7th in the first go-round, 20th in the 2nd go-round, and 6th in the short go. She also competed in the pole bending at the NHSFR.
PhotoFest! Basin Nation/Gillette Track Meet
The Basin Nation Track Meet was held on Tuesday at Thunder Basin High School in Gillette with some athletes still looking to pre-qualify for next month's State Meet in Casper. In the girls' team standings, Sheridan finished 1st with 184 points, Kelly Walsh 2nd with 166, Thunder Basin 3rd with 162, Wheatland placed 4th with 63, and Campbell County 5th with 60. On the boys' side, Sheridan took top honors with 219 points with Thunder Basin taking 2nd with 156, Kelly Walsh 3rd with 151 followed by Campbell County and Wheatland with 66.5 and 43.5 respectively.
Rodeo Circuit Cruises Through Rock Springs Over the Weekend
The spring season circuit for high school rodeo paid a visit to Rock Springs over the weekend for a 2-day event. The contestants are gearing up for the State Finals that will be held in Rock Springs in early June and the National High School Finals Rodeo will also be in Rock Springs in mid-July. Here are the top 2 finishers in each event for both sessions plus a rundown of the event leaders at this juncture of the season.
