Gillette’s Alyssa Harcharik is Heading to the Univ. of Mary for Golf
Thunder Basin senior Alyssa Harcharik has signed to continue her golf career in college at the University of Mary in North Dakota. Harcharik led the Bolts and finished tied for ninth at the 4A state golf championships in Sheridan last September. She fired rounds of 94 and 91 for a total of 185 at the Powder Horn Golf Club. Harcharik helped Thunder Basin to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.
Wyoming High School Softball Scoreboard: April 2-6, 2024
It’s back to normal for the high school softball schedule in Week 4. After just one twin bill last week, this week sees every team in the state in action at least once. The 2024 softball season continues with conference play. The fourth and fifth-ranked teams go on the road for two conference games on consecutive days. That also means the second and third-ranked teams are at home for two straight days. The Cheyenne schools face off early in the week, while Wheatland faces two of the Capital City teams this weekend.
Colter Hanft of Tongue River Inks with Chadron St. for Football
Colter Hanft from Tongue River is a gifted all-around athlete and he decided on football at the next level, signing a letter of intent with Chadron State in Nebraska. In his senior year on the gridiron, Hanft was an All-State pick in 2A as he made 75 tackles from his linebacker spot with 3 sacks, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery, and a touchdown. Hanft was productive on offense too catching 32 balls from the tight end position for 405 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also ran the ball for 142 yards and 3 scores.
Wyoming High School Boys Soccer Scoreboard: April 2-6, 2024
It’s Week 4 for high school boys’ soccer teams in Wyoming. Four days are filled with action on the pitch. That includes rivalry matches and two matches between teams who are ranked. Douglas and Newcastle are also playing out-of-state. Several schools are resuming their season after a pause for Spring Break.
Wyoming High School Girls Soccer Scoreboard: April 2-6, 2024
Week 4 of the Wyoming prep girls’ soccer season is here. There are multiple matches on four days this week around the state, and even a couple of teams playing out-of-state. Four of the matches feature ranked teams squaring off between the two classifications. There are also rivalry games on this week’s slate.
Wyoming Coaches Association Reveals Winter Coach of the Year Awards for 2024
The 2024 Winter Sports Season selections for ‘Coach of the Year’ honors have been released by the Wyoming Coaches Association. The winners were chosen by their fellow WCA coaches. These coaches are scheduled to be honored in a ceremony at WCA Clinic and Hall of Fame weekend in Casper this summer.
Wright’s Jaxson Neely Joins 1000 Point Circle
Jaxson Neely of Wright led his team to the 2A State Boys Basketball Tournament and in the process, reached the 1000-point mark in his career. At the conclusion of the season, Neely had rung up 1034 career points and averaged 20 points per game this past year. He led the Panthers in scoring with 608 total and the team ended up taking 3rd at the State Tournament. Neely was an All-State selection in 2024 and his best game at State was a 21-point effort vs. Kemmerer.
PhotoFest! Buffalo Track Meet
The annual Jerry Campbell Track & Field Meet commenced on Friday in Buffalo and it was a bit chilly with a tad bit of snow to make it interesting. In the girls' team standings, Buffalo was 1st with 171, Worland 2nd with 140, Sundance took 3rd with 61, Lovell 4th with 42, and Kaycee 5th with 29.5.

Five girls and five boys are chosen as the finalists for the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors, presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming. After receiving nominations and considering the best performances for this week's awards, these are the student-athletes you can vote for. These nominees performed well during competitions between March 25, 2024, and March 30, 2024, in soccer and track and field. Nominations for this week are closed!
Rachel Krein of Lusk Signs With Dickinson St. for Basketball
Rachel Krein from Lusk will be continuing her basketball career at Dickinson State in North Dakota after a couple of solid seasons in Niobrara County. In the 2023-23 campaign, Krein averaged 12.7 points a game and that was 4th in 2A. She also pulled down 8 rebounds per game and that also ranked 4th in 2A. Krein had a 22-point game vs. Southeast and a 20-point effort vs. Guernsey.

Our latest update to the 2024 Wyoming High School boys' soccer standings is here. There were only six matches last week thanks to numerous school districts' Spring Break. It means there wasn't a lot of movement in the standings, but a few things did change. This update includes all matches played through March 30, 2024.
Wyoming High School Girls Soccer Standings: April 1, 2024
Here are the latest girls' soccer standings for prep teams around the state through Week 3 of the 2024 season. There were not a lot of matches last week, which means the standings did not change too much, but there was a little movement. A few teams even played their first conference games of the season. This standings update includes all games played through March 30, 2024.
PhotoFest! Wheatland Track Meet
Wheatland was the site of a medium-sized track and field meet on Thursday so it was good to get out there while the weather was decent. With the season really just beginning, it was all about getting time and distances in the books and build on those marks as the season progresses. There were 6 athletes that won 2 events in this get-together so that was impressive to see. Here is a rundown of the top 2 finishers in each event.
Kemmerer’s Chase Bowen Joined the 1000-Point Club in 2024
Kemmerer senior Chase Bowen became a member of the 1000-point club during the 2024 season. He accomplished the feat in a game at the 2A West Regional Basketball Tournament in Riverton against St. Stephens on Feb. 24, 2024. Bowen scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the game. It helped the Rangers clinch a spot at the 2A state basketball tournament.
Three Douglas Basketball Players Reach 1000 Points in the 2024 Season
Three senior Douglas High School boys’ basketball players joined the 1000-point club during the 2024 season. Nate Halquist and Trey Rinn passed 1000 points in the same game on Feb. 13, 2024, versus Buffalo. WyoPreps believes it is the first time two teammates have reached the milestone in the same game. The third Bearcat who accomplished the feat was Levi Curtis. He reached 1000 points on Feb. 29, 2024, at the 3A East Regional Tournament in Rawlins in a win over Moorcroft.
Thunder Basin’s Attie Westbrook Inks with Northwest Nazarene
Attie Westbrook of Thunder Basin has been a goal-scoring machine for the Bolts and found the net a whopping 21 times in the 2023 season. She also had 5 assists and that kind of effort will give her a chance to compete at the next level at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. Thunder Basin went 17-1-1 last season and their only loss came to Kelly Walsh in the semi-finals of the 4A State Tournament.
Bailey Barnes of Thunder Basin Signs with Univ. of Mary
Thunder Basin enjoyed a memorable volleyball season as they finished 2nd at the 4A State Tournament with an overall record of 33-5. One of their All-State players was Bailey Barnes and she will continue her athletic career at the University of Mary in North Dakota. She is a 6-1 middle...
