These Wyoming High Schools Did Not Have An Ejection in 2023-24
Sportsmanship is a huge part of athletics at any level and some Wyoming high schools have been exemplary in maintaining composure. Sports is full of frustrations and emotions so keeping your cool is more challenging than it looks. The following schools went the entire 2023-24 athletic season without an ejection.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Scoreboard: June 3-9, 2024
American Legion Baseball in Wyoming rolls into Week 10 of the 2024 season. Tournament play shifts into high gear this week. Teams are playing in seven tournaments around the region. Two of the tournaments are in Laramie and Torrington. The others are in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah. Those tournaments will involve 16 of the 25 teams at the top two levels of Wyoming Legion Baseball. A smattering of conference games is also part of this week’s slate.

Wyoming Legion Baseball Standings: June 3, 2024
Wyoming Legion Baseball teams have completed nine weeks of the 2024 season. Last week’s action saw the Riverton Raiders, Cheyenne Sixers, and Cheyenne Eagles win tournaments. Gillette moved to the top of the Single-A East Conference standings. The Rustlers are followed by the Casper Drillers and Sheridan Jets. The Raiders also moved up in the Single-A Northwest standings, while Green River continues at the top of the Southwest. A couple of teams did not play last week. The standings include all games played through June 2, 2024.
The Finalists for the 2024 Milward Simpson Award are Revealed
The ten finalists for the 2024 Milward Simpson Award were announced on Monday morning. They are from eight high schools around the state and represent three of the four classifications in Wyoming High School sports. This honor is given to the state's most outstanding female and male student-athletes. It is considered the most prestigious high school award a prep athlete can earn in Wyoming.
Nebraska Rolls Past Wyoming, 48-14, in 6-Man Shootout [PHOTOS, VIDEO]
The Nebraska All-Stars beat the Wyoming All-Stars for the fourth time in the last five games last Friday night in the Wyoming-Nebraska 6-Man Shootout at Chadron, NE. The final score was 42-14. The boys from the Cornhusker State scored on their first three possessions and never trailed, as Nebraska took the series lead, 7-6.
High School Rodeo Concludes Regular Season
The prep rodeo regular season wrapped up with 3 performances over the Memorial Day weekend. Buffalo was the host for all performances but the 1st perf was technically hosted by Sheridan. The State Finals will be June 3-9 in Rock Springs and the top 4 qualifiers in each event will punch their ticket for the National High School Finals Rodeo that will be in Rock Springs in July. Moore and Carricato Are the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week [VIDEO]
A pair of hard-working rodeo athletes earned The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards. The winners were Caitlin Moore of Wright and Tuker Carricato from Saratoga. These two rodeo athletes excelled at last weekend’s three high school rodeo performances in Buffalo. Their efforts came during the week from May 20 through May 27, 2024.
PhotoFest Rewind! 2024 State Track Meet
The 2024 State Track Meet is in the books and it was a long 3 days earlier this month in Casper. The athletes gave it their all with fans and family there to cheer them on. It's certainly one of the best events on the high school athletics calendar and with the exception of day #2, the weather was decent.
Emilee Sirdoreus of Laramie Commits to Northeast CC for Softball
Laramie’s Emilee Sirdoreus will continue to play softball in college after signing at Northeast Community College in Nebraska. Sirdoreus was an all-state and three-time all-conference selection and a four-year starter in prep softball at Laramie High School. She helped LHS qualify for the state tournament in the 2024 season. The Plainsmen finished the season at 11-17 and went 5-7 in conference games.
Kassidy Scott Johnson Takes Over Douglas Girls Basketball
The six-time defending 3A girls’ basketball state champion Douglas Bearcats have a new leader ahead of the 2024-25 season. Kassidy Scott Johnson was hired as the new head coach. She replaces Cody Helenbolt, who left after 11 seasons at the helm to become the new head women’s basketball coach at Northwest College in Powell.
Watch Wyoming Coach Trent Aagard Preview All-Star Football Game Versus Nebraska
The annual Wyoming versus Nebraska 6-Man Shootout is on Friday in Chadron, NE. The kick-off is at 7 p.m. It will be the 13th meeting between the two states in the Battle for the Border all-star football game. Graduated seniors from 6-man football programs in both states were selected to play in the game earlier this year. Wyoming looks to avenge last year's 52-16 loss to Nebraska. The series record is 6-6.
Aidan Mattheus of Lusk to Continue Basketball Career at York University
Aidan Mattheus of Lusk displayed tremendous skill on the basketball floor in his prep career and will be taking his skills to York University in Nebraska. This past season, Mattheus averaged 14 points a game for Lusk which led the team along with 7 rebounds per contest. He was an All-State selection as the Tigers went 20-8 and qualified for the 2A State Tournament Championship game.
Cody Wright from Dubois Signs with North Idaho for Basketball
Cody Wright of Dubois was a dominant basketball player back in 2022 as the Rams made it to the 1A State Championship game. After high school, Wright went on a 2 year LDS mission and now will resume his basketball career at North Idaho College. Wright started his prep basketball...
Eli Patterson of Buffalo Signs at Northwest College for Basketball
Buffalo High School’s Eli Patterson is furthering his basketball career after committing to the Northwest College Trappers in Powell. Patterson was a four-time all-state selection and four-year starter for the Bison. He helped Buffalo qualify for the 3A basketball state tournament all four years of his prep career. That included a pair of third-place finishes in 2021 and 2022.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Standings: May 28, 2024
Eight weeks of the American Legion Baseball season in Wyoming is done. The Cheyenne Sixers continued with the best record through Memorial Day Monday. Casper solidified their second-place spot in the AA standings. Casper leads the A East Conference, while Powell and Green River lead the A Northwest and Southwest, respectively. Some teams are arranged based on winning percentage. The standings include all games played through May 27, 2024.
Lander’s Bennett Hutchison Commits to Harvard For Skiing
Normally, you wouldn't associate Harvard University in Boston for nordic skiing but yes the Crimson does have a team despite the fact that Ivy League schools don't provide athletic scholarships. What they do provide is prestigious academic opportunties and Lander's Bennett Hutchison said yes to that. He won a couple of State Championships in Nordic skiing a the prep level and Harvard's nordic ski team placed 14th at the NCAA Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado this past March.
Ethan Norris of Burns Signs With Chadron St. for Track
Ethan Norris had a solid State Track Meet in Casper earlier this month as he led his Burns boys team in points in the 3 day event and his efforts has earned him a spot on the Chadron State track program in Nebraska. Norris picked up 10 points for his squad at State Track by winning the 2A pole vault as he cleared 12 feet 8 inches. He added 16 points to the team total with a 2nd place finish in the 2A 110 hurdles in 16.10 and a 2nd place finish in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.75. His 4x400 relay team took 5th at the State Outdoor Meet.
CanAm Bowl XXVI Comes to Wyoming in July
The roster and coaching staff for Team USA in CanAm Bowl XXVI was released. This is a 6-Man All-Star football game between the USA and Canada. For the first time, the game will be played in Wyoming. It is on July 6, 2024, in Meeteetse, WY. The kick-off is at 2 p.m. Team USA has some of the best 6-man football players from Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, Texas, and Wyoming.

Our latest recipients of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards for May 22, 2024, were sophomore Addison Barnes of Cokeville, junior Paige Shaffer from Thunder Basin, and Cody junior Carter Gail. These three athletes excelled at last weekend’s state championships for track, softball, and soccer. Their efforts came during the week from May 13 through May 18, 2024.
