Survey: Most people don’t know these important numbers

(WYTV) – A new survey finds there are some important numbers most Americans don’t know, and they have to do with health.

A new national survey by the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center found that while most Americans can rattle off their parent’s phone number, less than half know their blood pressure or ideal weight.

And fewer than one in five knows his or her cholesterol or blood sugar levels.

Dr. Laxmi Mehta, who works at the Wexner Medical Center, said this is an important conversation to have with your doctor.

“When their blood pressure’s checked, they should ask, ‘What was my blood pressure, and what was it like last time?’ or, ‘What was my weight?'” Mehta said.

While many don’t know these numbers, however, most are getting screened, reporting blood pressure and heart rate checks within the past year and glucose and cholesterol checks within five years.

At least the doctors know these numbers and are hopefully keeping track.

Knowing where you stand and if your numbers are within a healthy range can be
    lifesaving.
