(WYTV)- We want to revisit a topic we once covered in Positive Parenting, call it the need for “me” time for moms and dads, and how to deal with parental stress.

In fact, the U.S. Surgeon General recently called it a major public health concern. Consider: Parents deal with inflation, they struggle to help their children keep up their grades or they’re constantly on the go with kids sports.

“This is something that i think is long overdue, the recognition that this has significant consequences, that it’s more than just a parent and I’m stressed and I’m tired. This is having real effects on individuals day-to-day functioning. it’s cumulative,” said Dr. Adam Borland of the Cleveland Clinic.

How do you cope? Make time for that “me” time. Go for a walk, take a bath, talk with a friend, read a book, and work out. Otherwise, your mental and physical health and relationships with your family can suffer.

Don’t be afraid to ask a friend or relative for help. It’s not a sign of weakness, and many times, they won’t mind lending a hand.
