YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Officials with the Mahoning County Board of Elections fired the company that was supposed to mail out ballots to voters who requested one.

The difficult decision was made Thursday to fire ElectionIQ after only half of the ballots had been mailed out and delivered to voters.

Mahoning County Board of Elections Director Tom McCabe said this is the first time it’s had to be done in his 26 years doing the job.

“The vendor we signed a contract for this year performed well in the March primary, in the June primary, but this primary, they got a little too far behind. We lost a lot of confidence in them,” McCabe said.

McCabe said he’s hopeful the rest of the ballots will be mailed and delivered by next Tuesday. Previously he urged voters who don’t receive their ballot by early next week to call the board of elections.
