YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Throughout the day Friday, fans were sending WKBN 27 First News cell phone pictures and videos from wherever they were inside the stadium when the Guardians stunned the Yankees in 10 innings in ALCS Game 3.

“It was just crazy. I wish I could just go again tonight and just relive it again. It was phenomenal,” said Rachel Camp, of Berlin Center.

Camp was there with her mother, Yvonne Lepor, as things started looking bleak in the eighth inning and people started leaving.

“I said, ‘You guys should stay!’ And I’ve been to many games where we were down and they came back and won, so we never leave a game,” Lepor said.

Barry and Rachel Wardle, of North Lima, were sitting in the left-field stands as the game went into extra innings.

“You’re sitting there in that moment and you know the character of the team. This team really never gives up. It’s always down to the last pitch and it was,” Barry Wardle said.

And just as that last pitch was thrown to batter David Fry, Wardle started recording with his phone, catching that walk-off homerun.

“And I knocked Barry’s phone out of his hand. It went flying, but I’m just like, ‘My God, sorry about your phone,’ but we were just jumping up and down,” Rachel Wardle said.

Afterward, the fans were comparing this to other moments in Cleveland sports history.

“It’s up there. It’s probably tied for number one. I mean, I’ve actually been to a lot of Indians games growing up. We were downtown for game seven when the Cavs beat the Warriors,’ said Seth Scala, of Cranberry, Pa.

Andy Hippley, of Salem, said everyone came together after the win.

“The horns blowing, everybody hugging, strangers hugging on the sidewalk. It was cool. That’s what makes sports fun,” Hippley said.

Friday night, the team will be hoping for another win to keep their dreams alive.
