BEAVER TWP., Ohio (WKBN) — The Mahoning County’s Engineer says a closed portion of Western Reserve Road could reopen in the coming weeks.

Thursday crews were seen pouring concrete near the intersection of Market Street. The area had to be closed for a month while a large new culvert was installed to carry water from several creeks under the new roadway.

Engineer Pat Ginnetti tells us once the concrete is dry enough to work on, layers of gravel and asphalt will be put down and a section can reopen to traffic.

“This will be one of the final closures on the project — again unless we run into some unforeseens on the eastern end of the project. Hopefully, we can get through without any, you know, long-term closures like this one. This was the worst I think, 30 days,” said Ginnetti.

The entire project stretching from Hitchcock Road all the way to I-680 is expected to be finished in 2026.

“The goal is to get the northern side done, flip traffic to that side and work on the southern side of the road, and then this way we can, hopefully, get to completing the project quicker,” Ginnetti said.
