The Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce will host a Candidate Forum for the Board of Education and candidates for County Commissioner on Monday, Feb. 12, at the Yadkin County Courthouse, located at 101 S. State Street in Yadkinville, beginning at 6 p.m. The forum will be livestreamed through the Chamber’s Facebook page.

For the forum, questions will be solicited from the audience, and each candidate will be given an opportunity to respond. Near the end of the forum, each candidate will be given time for closing remarks. A brief biography of each candidate and answers to pre-selected questions from the Chamber Board will be provided for the audience as well.

For the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners there are three seats up for election. Incumbents Kevin Austin and David Moxley will be on the ballot to reclaim their seats. Also vying for a spot on the county board will be Tim Parks, James Kent and Jay Martin.

The 2024 primary in March will serve as the election for Board of Education members who will take office ahead of the start of the 2024-25 school year. The Yadkin County Board of Education is a non-partisan race. School Board incumbent Sharon Yale has filed for re-election. She is joined by Tommie Haynes Paul, Sharon Abercrombie, Sarah Gough Boles, Barry Cole, Cody Spicer, Kenny Gooden, and Douglas A. McCraw. There are four seats up for election in the school board race.

Absentee by mail voting began on Jan. 19. The voter registration deadline for the 2024 primary is Feb. 9. One-stop voting, also known as early voting, will run from Feb. 15 through March 2. Election day is March 5.
