Grande Pink Drinks and venti Pumpkin Spice Lattes are coming to Yadkinville.

Construction on Yadkin County’s first Starbucks began at the beginning of the year, and a Starbucks spokesperson said the new location is expected to open in November. Yadkinville Town Manager Mike Koser said an official opening date has not yet been set.

The Yadkinville Starbucks, which sits between Bojangles and Maple St., will feature a drive through and an outdoor seating area. The exterior, though unmarked with any Starbucks branding, appears nearly complete. Sod and trees have been planted, and the parking lot has already been painted.

Yadkinville’s coffee scene is currently defined by its two dedicated local shops, Milk & Honey Coffee Co. and Garden Route Coffee. However, the arrival of Starbucks will introduce a significant new competitor to this growing market.

Starbucks Corporation is a growing American multinational chain of coffeehouses and roastery reserves headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Starbucks opened its first store in 1971, and now as of April, there are 17,068 Starbucks coffee shops in the United States and more than double that worldwide.

Samuel Stone, owner of Milk & Honey, said if people want convenience, they’ll go to Starbucks. But if they want a good, locally-produced product, they’ll stick with his shop.

    “We’ll be alright,” Stone said.

C.F. Smith Property Group is developing the Starbucks project, and Builtech Services, LLC. is managing the construction.

The plot of land where the Starbucks sits was marked as general commercial in the Town of Yadkinville’s 2025 Land Development Plan published nearly 20 years ago. The plan encourages commercial growth to boost the local economy, create jobs, allow residents to shop and dine locally, and enhance the community’s appearance — making the new Starbucks a welcome development.

The town surveyed Starmount and Forbush high school students back in 2005 as part of the plan. One question asked students what developments would make Yadkinville a better place for teenagers and young adults.

Even 20 years ago, Starbucks was eighth on their list.
