Local restaurants say 'Tuck a Child Under Your Wings' this Superbowl Sunday

It wouldn’t seem like Super Bowl Sunday without wings, BBQ, and pizza. Some Yadkin restaurants are asking their customers to “tuck a child under your wings” by considering volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem Child Advocate.

GAL Child Advocates give abused and neglected children in foster care a voice in court and advocate for their best interest. NC Judicial Branch District 34 Guardian ad Litem Program serves approximately 300 children from birth to age 18 in Yadkin, Wilkes, Alleghany, and Ashe counties. More volunteers are needed.

So, just like a football player tucks the ball under his arm and heads to the in zone to score a goal, GAL needs more community members to step up and advocate for Yadkin children in foster care.

Yadkin restaurants supporting NCGAL this Super Bowl Sunday include: Little Italy, Papa’s Pizza To Go, Little Richard’s Smokehouse BBQ, Debbie’s Dairy Freeze, and Domino’s Pizza — all in Yadkinville, and Sixty-Seven Pizza Co. in Jonesville.

GAL Child Advocates do not take children into their homes like a traditional guardian would do. NCGAL volunteers are appointed by a judge to meet with children on a regular basis to talk with them about how they’re doing and if they have any needs or wishes. These child advocates also speak with the children’s social workers, caregivers, teachers, therapists, parents, and others to advocate for the children’s best interest. The goal is for the children to have permanency in a safe and healthy home.
