Officials in Yadkin County held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning to commemorate the start of construction for its newest government building. The property on East Elm St. in Yadkinville across from the courthouse, will become the new location for Yadkin County Tax Office, License Plate Agency, and Information Technology. The site is the former location of the Holcomb House, built in 1899. The historic home was moved to Van Buren St. in October of last year.

The new government building will allow citizens to visit the Tax Office and License Plate Agency without visiting the courthouse while remaining in close proximity to other offices such as the Register of Deeds, said a statement from the county.

The new building will also house Yadkin County Information and Technology and will create a purpose-built space to allow staff to continue to provide IT, cybersecurity, and GIS services to staff and citizens.

The new construction is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2025.
