First National Bank of Pennsylvania (FNB) awarded Emmy Corn, branch manager of First National Bank, Yadkinville office, the FNB Community Spirit Award for her many local leadership and service roles. FNB chooses one leader annually in each of its 6 regions (representing 350 branches) for the award. Emmy Corn was selected for her extensive community service in 2023, which includes the Shallow Ford Foundation Board of Directors and its new Yadkin County Education Foundation fund Advisory Board, Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce, Yadkin Christian Ministries — Chair of the Empty Bowls fundraiser, Yadkin Rotary Club Executive Board, Yadkin County Schools, and others. Corn also serves on the working team for the child care expansion initiative with its goal to build a multi-unit facility in Yadkinville for multiple child care providers.

With the FNB recognition, she received a financial gift and designated it to the Shallow Ford Foundation’s Yadkin County Education Foundation Fund and the Dr. Wayne C. Matthews Continuing Education Award. Commenting on the contribution, Corn reflected on the influence of her uncle, Dr. Wayne C. Matthews.

“He took the time to serve as a mentor to me, bringing me to community events and inspiring my appreciation for service in the community. Education was so important in his life and in gratitude for his influence and my similar care for education, these designations are in his honor and memory,” she said.

The Wayne C. Matthews Continuing Education Award is an annual scholarship for adults returning to school for additional training. The Yadkin County Education Foundation is a fund benefitting Yadkin County Schools and currently offering creative classroom grants for teachers.

“Emmy is a community treasure who is more than deserving of this recognition,” said Sandi Scannelli, President/CEO of the Shallow Ford Foundation. “Her heart for service and leadership is apparent in all she does. We are grateful to FNB for not only recognizing her community spirit, but also for the contribution in Emmy’s honor.”
